EXAMINER A -PART 1
Requirements:
Two horses tacked up, saddles, 2 snaffle bridles, breastplates, boots, rugs.
Tacking-up. Ride and Lead. Leg Up.
A1. Take two horses out of the stables; mount, ride and lead unaided using snaffle bridles. Lead horse may be tied up outside. Highway Code.
A2. Put-up' person on a horse by giving a leg-up.
A3. Know how to check tack, hold horse's head and off-side stirrup leather to balance weight of rider mounting.
EXAMINER A - PART II
Requirements:
One horse in stable yard.
Well-equipped tack room.
Shoeing tools and shoes, Grooming kit. Plaiting box.
Clippers.
Stable Yard
A4. Planning a stable yard, boxes, buildings, light, ventilation, water supply and systems.
A5. Types of bedding, advantages and disadvantages. Siting, building and disposal of muck heap.
A6. Precautions to be taken against fire and burglary.
Foot and Shoeing
A7. Structure of horse's foot.
A8. Recognition of well-shaped and shod foot. Faults to look for.
A9. Notice unusual shoeing, pads, etc., wear of shoes and relate to possible unsoundness or movement.
A10. Use of various types of shoe to correct interference, brushing, over-reaching, etc.
A11. Use of studs.
A12. Show how to remove a loose shoe. Tools to use, either farriers or substitutes if these are not available.
A13. Diseases and ailments related to the foot.
Grooming
A14. Stabled horses and ponies.
A15. Reasons and methods for washing and drying grooming kit and stable equipment.
A16. Reasons for strapping and demonstrate using a leather pad etc.
A17. How to wash a horse's sheath, mane and tail.
A18. Cooling off a horse after work, including washing down and drying off a wet or sweating horse.
Clipping, Trimming and Plaiting
A19. How to pull or thin manes and tails.
A20. Show how to trim the horse's legs and heels.
A21. How to plait manes and tails.
A22. How to clip. Preparation of: horses, person clipping, stable, safety measures.
A23. Care of clippers; before, during and after clipping.
A24. Types of clip and their uses. Marking horse for clipping.
A25. Dealing with nervous or difficult horses.
Tack room
A26. Insurance. Accident books and forms.
A27. First Aid for riders.
A28. Recognition of various normal types of bit and saddlery, their uses, advantages and disadvantages, actions.
