In view of the new framework for Pony Club and Junior HPA polo, the Pony Club Polo Committee and HPA would like to formalise the way in which all players, but particularly those in Junior HPA, record the polo tuition and training which they receive. For example, all players with the exception of the very young, must be able to prepare and tack up their pony to play polo.
Working in conjunction with the HPA we have designed a Training Day format for all Pony Club/Junior HPA Training courses which are organised at National Area or Branch levels. The National Area courses will be managed centrally working in conjunction with Branch Managers. Branch Level training will obviously be organised to this format by Branch Managers.
Aligned with this Training Day format, a Pony Club & Junior HPA Training Record has been produced on which all players can record the various training sessions which they have attended in 2008. The Record Card can be completed after any Pony Club training session including a working rally, a polo rally, an overseas training course or National Area or Branch Training courses or schools polo instruction by an HPA coach. There is space to enter other relevant qualifications (Pony Club Tests, Rules and Umpire Tests) and also other training e.g. lectures on any more advanced aspects of polo.
Ultimately the Branch Manager is responsible for signing that each player has received the necessary instruction in 2008 and is competent in the areas specified and more specifically for the Section in which they will compete in the summer. The individual training sessions can either be signed by a Pony Club Instructor or an HPA accredited coach as relevant.
The HPA would like players who are hoping to do the Junior HPA sections to attend 2 area polo training courses or equivalent in order to complete their Training Record Card. The HPA and the Pony Club officials are very keen to adhere to this to enable the children to gain a wealth of knowledge and also the safety aspect is of paramount importance. The aim is to have better and safer polo. We also want to have a central register of all children attending the National Area courses so that this list can be compared against all those playing Pony Club/Junior HPA polo in 2008
