The seven tests are E, D, D+, C, C+, B and A with E being the lowest and A being the highest. Although the tests are not compulsory, members are encouraged to work for and take them. The standard you have attained and the next test you are working for, does play a part in deciding the ride you will be placed in at rallies and at camp. All the instruction you need towards the riding section of each test will be obtained by participation at Rallies. Stable Management lectures towards each test are held throughout the spring, summer and at Junior and Senior Camp. Achievement badges will also help towards the theory part of the tests. The Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship (a book no member should be without) is also a valuable source of information.
Looking to your future if you wish for a career with horses, you are exempt from taking the BHS stage 1 & 2 exams if you hold your Pony Club B test.
Test cards for any of the following can be obtained by sending a large SAE to Tracy Field.
E & D Tests will be taken at selected rallies throughout the year, also at Junior Camp and Senior Camp.
D+ Tests Lectures and tests are held throughout the year, see each programme for details, also at both camps.
Riding & Road Safety Tests. This test must be taken before you can proceed with any other tests. Although you cannot take the test until you are 12 years old, it is advisable to start attending the unmounted lectures and video evenings as soon as you have passed your D+.
C & C+ Tests. Both these tests will be held at Senior Camp, you may come in to camp for the day just to take the test, if you are not already there.
B Test. The B Test can now be taken in two separate stages if you wish. This will enable you to concentrate on either the Riding or the Horse and Pony Care at one time. B Tests are arranged within our Pony Club area.
This year the training will be done by Tracy Field. Please see the programme for more details.
There will be three mounted sessions and at least one theory session, before the official test. The cost of taking the test will be £32.00 and each candidate will need to buy the Riding and Road Safety Handbook. The test and training will take place at Spofforth.
The test will take place at either Easter, May half term or October this year. Thre will be a compulsory 8 hours training prior to the test. The minimum age for taking the test is 12 years old on the test day.
Anyone wishing to take their C Test must hold this certificate. To fit all the training in it may be necessary to do some of the sessions on a Saturday. Please indicate on your return form if you are interested so I can get an idea of numbers. Once I get an idea of numbers I will contact you direct with dates and times.
