NCPC Christmas Showjumping (Saturday 29th December, 2007)

(Incorporating Dengie Qualifier).

A report from Jen Trethewey at Tall Trees Arena.

We had a great day’s showjumping at Tall Trees Arena on 29 December 2007. Quite a few prospective new members came along and joined in the fun. Ponies and riders were decorated in tinsel with ‘reindeers’ and Father Christmases also seen. Special Fancy Dress prizes were awarded by Anita to Luke Spry, and Molly and Tara-Nell Nolan.

The Pixie Stakes for riders 12 years and under was won with a very stylish jump off round by Brooke Whetter riding Copper. This combination then teamed up with sister Amber Whetter and Jericho to win the Santa’s Little Helpers Pairs class.

It was a 3rd win of the day for Brooke as her and Copper also galloped around the Christmas Cracker Class jump off course to just pip Jemma Parsons with Penny Farthing.

Rudolph’s Scurry produced some very fast rounds with George Boisseau’s former pony Danny Boy really giving his new rider Megan Furse a great time. This pairing flew round with seconds to spare over their rivals and took 1st place.

As a preparation for the Dengie Qualifier the Rockin Robin Warm Up attracted the largest numbers of entries on the day. Annie Warren rode a great jump off round on Gold to take 1st place from Stevenstone and Torrington Pony Club member Kirsten Vincent on Farscope.

The Dengie as always proved a testing track with only 5 through to the jump off where there were 4 qualification places to be won. East Cornwall Pony Club member Emma Betteridge collected 1st place on her chestnut Mount Edgecumbe Merlin, with Louise Parkinson from Tetcott and South Tetcott riding Honesty to 2nd place. The highest placed North Cornwall member was Nina Ball riding Just Pepsi who finished 3rd. Nina was delighted to collect this qualifying place having only recently taken up the ride on this attractive mare. The final qualifier was Lara Hopkins from Lamerton on Pele.

Thanks to all who helped; course building, judging, stewarding, taking entries etc.
