North Cornwall Pony Club members pulled out all the stops at the area dressage competition in North Devon to clinch an impressive clutch of tickets to the national finals.  More than 180 competitors from Cornwall and Devon came together for these prestigious area qualifiers.

The North Cornwall team of Mollie Trethewey (Kilrush Happy Hurricane Harvey), Nina Ball (Murphy), Issy Kennan (Max) and Shannon Fahey (Gorgeous George) produced a series of high quality performances to seal victory in the novice qualifier and their passage to the Cheshire-based finals.

Mollie Trethewey made her mark on Kilrush Happy Hurricane Harvey, returning a polished test for pole position in their arena and the best junior rosette.

Franking their strength in this discipline, Mollie’s team mates followed her lead with Issy Kennan securing second place riding Max, Nina Ball finishing in fourth on Murphy and Shannon Fahey emerging eighth with Gorgeous George.

Dedication and good training is the key to the success of this team who have clearly benefited from expert guidance and support from Liz Barclay.  The long hours of training in all weathers paid off," said Mollies mother Jenny.

“The girls have all worked exceptionally hard over the past six to 12 months and this was reflected by their high scores and solid individual placings”.

Emma Harris (Camills Daisy) and Abi Glencros (Tess) emerged with their tickets to the intermediate dressage championships which take place at the national pony club finals at Shelford in Nottingham.

Coping brilliantly under pressure, Emma and Camills Daisy demonstrated the benefits of good training topping their arena, while Abi booked her ticket with a third place on Tess.

North Cornwall members shone across the board.  A well ridden test from Emma Howard and Diptford Dreams of Glory took third place and best junior while Poppy Miller partnered Web to a credible fifth place in their arena.  The North Cornwall intermediate teams also finished in the ribbons with Emma Harris, Annie Warren (Gold), Harriet Dance (Dixie Moon) and Poppy (Web) in fifth and Emma Howard. Abi Glencross and Katie Howard (Haveabash) in team fourth.

in the junior competition, for members 12 years and under, Alice Stephens rode a very accurate test on her coloured pony Mr Chips to finish fourth from a 42-strong field.  Alice joined forces with Eva Walton (Cassie), Luke Spry (Miss Moneypenny) and Di Milton Ayres (Kermit The Frog) for a credible fifth team placing. This up-and-coming young team have thrived on regular tuition from Jo Retallack.
