D TEST

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM AGE 8 OR 9 YEARS (i.e. born 1997 or before)

Everyone should receive a copy of the D Standard Test Sheet when they join the Pony Club. This is the first and most basic of all the efficiency tests.

This is a very informal examination and will usually take place at a rally or camp when, in the opinion of branch instructors and the Chief Instructor, the member has achieved the standard. Also look out for our D and D+ Test Rallies.

On passing the D Test the Pony Club member will be awarded a yellow felt to wear behind the Pony Club badge.

D+ TEST

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM AGE 10 YEARS (i.e. born 1995 or before)

This is an official voluntary Test of a standard half way between D and C. It is not necessary to pass it before attempting C. However it is a very useful stepping-stone. As with the D test it will usually take place during a rally or at camp also look out for our D and D+ Test Rally in Spring this year.

Felt colour - White.

C TEST

RECOMMENDED MIMIMUM AGE 11-12 YEARS (i.e. born 1994 or before)

Before attempting C Test all candidates must have attained their Pony Club or British Horse Society (BHS) Riding & Road Safety Certificate*.

The C Test will take place on a specific 'Test' day, usually during August and will be taken by an external examiner. The test will take half a day to complete.

This is a much more demanding test than the D Standards. Specific training on all parts of the syllabus is required.

If you are aged 11 or over and hold the Pony Club D and preferably the D+ Tests you may attend C Test Training Sessions this year.

Felt colour - Green

*PONY CLUB RIDING & ROAD SAFETY CERTIFICATE

(i.e. born 1994 or before)

Training sessions held during the summer holidays with a mounted practice and test at the end. Training dates will be available in the Summer Programme.

C+ TEST

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM AGE 14 YEARS (born 1991 or before)

This is an official voluntary test of a Standard half way between C & B. It is not necessary to pass it before attempting B. However, we strongly recommend it as a means of preparing for B Test. The step up from C to B Standard is very high and studying for C + prepares members for the higher level.

The test will take place on a specific 'Test' day, usually during August and will be taken by an external examiner. The test will usually take half a day to complete.

If you are aged 14 years or over and hold the Pony Club C Test you may attend training sessions this year

This test is divided into two parts; Riding and Horse & Pony Care. To achieve the full B Test Standard members must pass both parts. However, both parts may be taken individually.

The standard for B Test is very high and members MUST attend training sessions and an assessment session prior to attempting the test. In addition to branch training, the Pony Club Area arranges top-up sessions, which are extremely helpful.

The B Test is arranged by Area and our test centre in usually Berriewood Farm, at the end of August.

If you are aged 15 or over and hold the Pony Club C+ Test you may attend training sessions this year.

Members need not hold the B (Riding) Test to attempt A Horse & Pony Care.

If you wish to discuss nomination for A Horse & Pony care you need to contact either Rosie Thomas (Chief Instructor) or Jackie Forrester (DC).
