2006 Lancashire Sports Awards
Blackburn Rovers played host to over 300 Lancashire sporting stars and sports volunteers on the evening of Friday 29th September, for the prestigious 2006 Lancashire Sports Awards.
Olympic swimmer Steve Parry opening the evening, with an inspirational and highly entertaining speech, about his glittering career. Steve explained how as a twelve year old he too was at an awards ceremony in Liverpool, with an amazing dream to represent England in the Olympics; he achieved this goal through true grit and determination. Steve gave some words of advice to the young sport stars in the audience, which was never give up and always believe in yourself
The Lancashire Sports Awards are co-ordinated by Lancashire Sport; this ceremony brought together 14 boroughs who all nominated a sports person to represent them in five categories, which were Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, Rising Star, Young Volunteer of the year and Special Recognition.
Rossendale was represented by:
-Abigail Danson- Young Volunteer of the year (Holcombe Pony Club)
-Ryan Smith- Rising Star (Holcombe Pony Club)
-Haslingden Hand Ball Club of the year
-Melanie Briggs Coach of the year (Rossendale Harriers)
-Frank Manning Special Recognition (Bacup Borough Football Club)
All the nominees were called up on stage to collect their certificates and be applauded for their talent and commitment to Lancashire Sport.
Frank Manning went on to win the main award for the evening, which was the Special Recognition Award. Frank has been a dedicated volunteer for Bacup Borough Football Club for over 40 years.
This was a truly amazing night, one to remember for many years to come, well done everyone!
