TEAM SELECTION & QUALIFICATION

AREA  TEAM COMPETITION INFORMATION 2008

If you are interested in doing Area Competitions ........READ THOROUGHLY !

Every year at the end of July/beginning August each Pony Club Area in the UK (we are Area14) hold Area qualifying competitions in most Pony Club disciplines. Each year these are run by different branches at different venues within each Area. The teams and individuals that qualify at the Area competitions go on to the Championships at Draycott Park, Derbyshire for Open Area and Intermediate levels and Smallwood, Congleton, Cheshire for the National Novice. There no championships for Junior classes held at Area competitions.

All levels of Area (eventing, dressage and show jumping), Hickstead (SJ) and Gatcombe (SJ) teams are selected by the various trainers, co-ordinators and the D.C.  Members are then invited to be part of the team. You cannot enter Area competitions yourself, you have to be selected and the entries done by the Branch.  It is a great honour to represent your branch at an Area competition. These are the only team competitions for which the Pony Club selects teams. There are many other schedules that include team classes; you can organize your own team and just go and do it.  However you must let the DC know what you are doing and let her know how you all got on.  Good or bad!

TEAM SELECTION

If you would like to be considered for Area teams in Dressage, Show Jumping or Eventing  you MUST complete the COMPETITION FORM at the back of this information sheet and return it to Clare Bromfield AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  The RESULTS SHEET  must be filled in with appropriate competition results over 2008 and handed in by the end of June. This is important so we know what competitions you have been doing. It is impossible for us to know how all of you are getting on so these forms are very useful.  Please keep us up dated with how you are doing and don’t be shy if you have a big success at whatever level.  We like to be told about it, so please let us know!  These forms are also available on the website.

Remember, to qualify for Area teams you must have done 3 Working Rallies (day or evening) since last July (at least one has to be in 2008).  Camp counts as one rally.

The Eligibility Rules for all levels are quite complicated. Please look them up on the Pony Club website and make sure you are qualified for the competition you would like to be considered for. Although we will double check everyone,

it is your responsibility to check up as well

Rule Books in all disciplines are available from Pony Club HQ for £3 and are available to anyone. It is recommended that you buy your own or look on the main Pony Club website.

If you do not have B test and you would like to wear spurs you must get the Spur Permission section of your Membership card signed by the DC, and take it to all competitions.  We cannot sign your Spur Permission unless you come to rallies so the instructors can see you ride. All hats must be Pony Club tagged.  See the new rules for hats that can be worn for cross country in General Information.
