You are in: Branches / Atherstone Hunt / Atherstone Hunt Activities
The Atherstone Hunt Branch of the Pony Club offers a range of training that is available to members to help them reach their own goals and work towards test standards. Remember that we are here to help you. If you need any advice on which training to attend, then please speak to either of our Joint Chief Instructors (Amelia and Catherine). We will be more than happy to help. Please also read this page of guidelines for attending activities and training (click to view) The range of training that we offer is given in more detail below. Working rallies are an excellent way to improve your riding. At a rally, you will often be taught in small groups (usually no more than 6) and will be put into a group with members of a similar ability. A general working rally may include a mixture of flatwork, jumping, games and lots of other fun activities. Some rallies may work towards specific discipline training (such as Cross Country for Eventing, Swimming for Tetrathlon, etc., see below for more details). If you are a new member and unsure of where to start, then please contact the Chief Instructor or Assistant Chief Instructor for advice. Discipline specific training For those interested in a specific discipline (e.g. tetrathlon, dressage to music, polo etc.), specific training rallies are organised by the relevant team managers. Within the Activities section of the branch web site (click here to view), there are sub-sections for each discipline that contain more details about the training and rallies that are organised. Riding and Road Safety We feel as a branch it is very important that members take Riding and Road Safety training and tests. We have three levels within the branch, Achievement badge (around 9 to 11 years) PC test (around 10 to 12 years at C test Level) and BHS test (from 12 years onwards) please try and do a course, it will help to make you safer on the road. Click here to view the Riding and Road Safety Tests Syllabus Tests The Pony Club Training structure encourages members to take tests which enables them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The tests are taken at recommended ages and are designed with certain objectives in mind.Working Rallies
Stable Management
Stable management training is run throughout the year, often aimed at a particular test standard, or working towards achievement badges (see below). We also organise outside specialists to visit. Past lectures/workshops have included Dodson and Horrell feed specialists, an Equine Therapist and a Worming specialist. The Pony Club also run a Horse and Pony Care competition each year, which we send teams of varying age/ability. This is an excellent and fun way to help reinforce the knowledge/skills you have learnt whilst working towards tests.

Achievement Badges
The Pony Club Achievement Badge scheme is a fun way to gain a greater knowledge of horsemanship and the countryside. A broad range of horsemanship and other related topics (such as countryside, first aid) are covered by the achievement badges. These are an ideal way for younger members to work towards test standards but are also just as useful for older members.
Camps
Undoubtedly the most popular training that we offer each year, the branch organise four camps each year that cover the range of ability within the branch: mini, junior, senior and advanced camp.
