Cubitt Awards 2011

The annual event honours those who have so generously given at least twenty years of voluntary help to The Pony Club, and 2011 was no exception, with an amazing 80 recipients on the list and an incredible combined service of over 2000 years between them!!

One of the longest serving recipients of 2011 was Mrs Patricia MacKean, a founding member of the East Antrim Branch of The Pony Club, with over 44 years of service giving her time freely as a fence judge, dressage judge, cross country controller and now taking the role of Branch President.

Following lunch, this year’s awards were presented by Cherry Michell, Chairman of the Pony Club. “The Cubitt Awards are always a wonderful occasion” said Cherry, “and as our largest ever, this year’s ceremony has seemed even more special. We simply couldn’t carry out of the activities we do without volunteers, we rely on over 600 volunteers alone to help run The Pony Club Championships each year, and we really are so grateful to them all”.

The Pony Club Cubitt awards take their name from the late Hon Guy Cubitt, who was the Chairman of The Pony Club for 25 years and President from 1970 - 1979. This year’s awards also coincided with the 2011 Volunteers Week, held June 1-7th, when organisations hold events and activities to highlight their volunteers and the volunteering that do.
