Pony Club Talent Pathway

The Pony Club Talent Pathway is the successor to the Rider Development Pathway (RDP).  Sponsored by Aberystwyth University, the scheme aids the development of Pony Club Members who show ability to progress in their chosen discipline of Show Jumping, Dressage or Eventing.

The minimum entry criteria previously used for the Rider Development Pathway has been altered to open the application process to a wider audience; enabling more Pony Club Members to take part and benefit from the coaching on offer.

The programme will work as follows:

Training Days will be run from late January through to March around the UK, where Members will benefit from top class coaching.  Some will then progress to Regional Assessment Days.  You do not have to attend a training day to progress to an assessment day.

Regional Assessment Days offer further training opportunities with some of the UK’s best known coaches will be held during April. Riders take part in two training sessions at these events, with flat and/or jumping coaches as appropriate, and will receive feedback to help their future development.  From the Assessment Days riders will then be selected for a weekend-long National Camp.

Riders selected from Assessment Days will be invited to attend the Pony Club Talent Pathway Camp held on 1 & 2 July 2017.  They will work with top class discipline-specific coaches, as well as benefit from other mounted and dismounted sessions.

A squad of six people will be selected from those attending camp.  Squad members will benefit from support from an experienced mentor who will continue to develop their progression and training within their discipline, plus a training bursary and other opportunities.

Aberystwyth University is the oldest provider of equine university education in the UK and one of very few universities where you can take your horse with you - whatever you study. Their superb livery facilities are within a purpose built teaching unit where there are stables available and the setting is a beautiful one; with mountains behind and a beach to the front. Students who don’t have a horse of their own can ride one of Aberystwyth’s well-schooled horses in lessons or hacks. As well as numerous riding opportunities, the University is also home to a vibrant student community which boasts over 200 social clubs and societies.

We would encourage Members who are interested to find out more about what the University can offer to sign up to their Virtual Open Day on Thursday 08 December between 6pm and 8pm.

For further information about their fantastic range of courses and facilities please go to https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/ibers/ug-study/ugrad-courses/equine/
