Royal Windsor Horse Show 2019

Well done to all competitors who took part in the Tetrathlon competition over the week end of 11th/12th May. Final results can be found below.

Windsor is an opportunity to showcase Tetrathlon to a wider audience, and we are most grateful to the Royal Windsor Horse Show for inviting us again this year. Teams of 3 were selected to represent 8 UK Regions, namely Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Borders and then Northern, Central, South West, Southern, and Eastern England.

Competitors and parents arrived on Friday afternoon to a sea of mud, with every horsebox having to be towed onto and off the Showground by some frantically busy tractors. Some kind spring weather meant conditions improved amazingly quickly during the course of the week end, and all vehicles were able to drive off without assistance by Sunday evening.

The Shoot and Swim phase were held at Windsor Leisure Centre, where Beatrice Taylor from Wales and Borders took first place in the Shoot with a score of 980 and Tom Brown from Central England won the Swim. It was back to the Windsor Show Ground for the Run phase, alongside the Thames, where Julia Cash from Scotland took first place.

After the first three phases, Scotland were lying in a strong first place in the team competition, which proved to be unassailable once they had completed the Ride phase. This constituted a show jumping course including a slip rail, with 9 of the 24 competitors achieving a full 1400 marks for the Ride.

Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who helped over the week end, and we look forward to seeing competitors, parents and volunteers as the summer progresses – next stop the Junior International competition at Moreton Morrell at the beginning of June!

2018 Report.

The Pony Club Tetrathlon Competition at Royal Windsor Horse Show was held on the 12th & 13th May 2018. 24 Members in teams from the eight regions: Scotland, Northern England, Central England, East of England, Southern England, South West England, Wales & Borders and Northern Ireland were selected by their Area Tetrathlon Co-ordinators to take part in this special competition at Windsor which we were kindly invited to.

Saturday saw the competition start with the Swim and Shoot phases over at Windsor Leisure Centre. Joshua Mitchell from the Central England Team, took the best swim with a score of 1228 points (10 lengths 11 metres) and Rhys Smart from Wales & Borders took the best shoot prize with a score of 980. With a break in the afternoon before competing in the run phase competitors, parents and supporters had the chance to catch some of the action in the arenas and do a bit of shopping. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and a very wet run took place along the bank of the river Thames. Sam Cobb from the South West England team took the best run with a score of 1183 points (4 minutes 39 seconds).

Sunday continued with the Ride phase which consisted of Arena jumping over a mixture of working hunter fences and show jumps, with a slip rail to negotiate as well. It was a testing course with only 10 riders finishing with a 1400 point score. South West England came out on top with a final team score of 13440 points, Scotland were a close second with 13058 points and Southern England held onto 3rd place with a score of 13011.
In the individual competition Sam Cobb (South West England) finished in first place with 4613 points, Joshua Mitchell (Central England) came in a close second with 4522 points and Tristan Parmenter (Southern England) finished in third place with 4511 points.
