The Tetrathlon Championships 2019

A healthy 322 competitors drawn from throughout the UK participated in The Tetrathlon Championships at Open, Intermediate, Junior and Grassroots levels. The Championships took place from 9th – 12th August at Offchurch Bury, Warwickshire for the second year in succession. The Shoot phase was held in the marquee at Offchurch, and the Swim phase at Warwick University’s brand new Sports and Wellness Hub. The Ride phase involved another challenging cross country course designed by Lloyd Hunt, which proved to be highly influential to the overall result, with only six clear within the time at Open level and three at Intermediate. The competition was rounded off by the Run phase on Sunday morning, prior to prize giving and dispersal in monsoon-like conditions on Sunday afternoon.

Guy Anderson from the West Warwickshire was victorious in the Boys Open competition and Emma Whittaker from the Oxenholme branch prevailed in the Open Girls. Tristan Parmenter won the Intermediate Boys class and Annabel James the Intermediate Girls, whilst Rhys Smart triumphed in the Junior Boys and Gina Speakman in the Junior Girls – well done to them all.

We are hugely indebted to the numerous volunteers who helped during the course of the competition, and especially to Tim Liddon, Judy Hardcastle, Richard Mosley, and Heather Greenslade who oversaw the Shoot, Swim, Run and Ride phases respectively, and Sarah Freeman and her team for providing vet cover, and Nic Krusin as Stable Manager.

The Grassroots competition was organised and overseen by Phil Bousfield. It attracted a stronger entry than in recent years, and was won by Raissa Vickery.

The Tetrathlon Championships 2018

Competitors from all Areas took part in The Tetrathlon Championships that were held at a new venue for 2018; Offchurch Bury, Warwickshire on the 10th-12th August by the kind permission of Mr Harry Johnson. The amazing cross country course build by Lloyd Hunt under the guidance of Heather Greenslade and Technical Adviser Johnathon Clissold, was thoroughly enjoyed by all competitors and spectators as it tested Members riding ability. The competition culminated in the run phase with members being placed in heats depending on their score after 3 phases. Keiran Harby from Quorn Hunt followed in big brother Jamie Harby’s footsteps and took the coveted the Open boys individual title and Alex Bousfield from Old Berkeley Hunt (Chilterns) took the Open Girls title. Full results are available below.

We would all like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who helped run the competition, especially Tim Liddon, Judy Hardcastle, Richard Mosley, and Heather Greenslade for organising the phases. Sarah Freeman and her team for providing vet cover, and Nic Krusin who was Stable Manager.

In 2011, with great success, Pony Club Tetrathlon piloted a mentoring programme to run alongside the Tetrathlon Championships at Hartpury College. Using top rated coaches from Modern Pentathlon, British Shooting and Pony Club they work as Mentors and Role Models to Competitors. Now in it’s sixth year, we are looking forward to welcoming this years selected Mentors to The NFU Mutual Tetrathlon Championships to continue to offer Members support and advice on how to deal with competition nerves and come up with their own plans for riding the testing Championships cross country course.

We’ll keep you posted on who this year’s Mentors are going to be and where you can find them at The Championships!
