The Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop consists of three sections - Core Content, Residential and Management. The Core Content is mandatory for all individuals with a general role involving regulated activity. The Residential and Management sections are optional bolt-ons to the main content. If you would like to host a course with either of these bolt-on courses, please speak to your Area Trainer to organise this prior to the course start date.

Core Content
The Core Content is designed for all individuals with a general role involving regulated activity, including coaches, officials and supervisors. The main content outlines the roles and responsibilities that we all have in our duty of care towards children, young people and adults at risks. More specifically it covers:
- What is safeguarding?
- Types of abuse
- Policies
- What is best practice?
- How to deal with concerns and allegations
- Legislation

Residential Bolt On
The Residential bolt on is designed specifically for those with a residential role, including camp supervisors or overnight escorts. This section looks at safeguarding in relation to residential situations and incorporates discipline, substance abuse and transportation to name a few.

Management Bolt On
The Managerial bolt on is designed specifically for those with a managerial role, including DCs and Proprietors. This section outlines the reporting procedure for safeguarding concerns and allegations, how to recruit safely, and communication channels.

All Branches, Linked Centres and Areas of The Pony Club can apply to host and organise a Safeguarding and Child Protection Workshop. In return for organising the workshop and paying for the venue, the Branch / Linked Centre / Area will receive a £60 credit from The Pony Club Office. The Pony Club pays the fee and expenses of the Trainer.

The venue must be able to sit 20 people comfortably, and have electricity, a projector, and a screen or blank pale wall that can be projected onto. You should allow three and a half hours for a course. Courses will only run if there are a minimum of 12 attendees. The maximum number of attendees per course is 20.

Please check the website that there is not another course running close by to your proposed course; we know there is huge demand for these courses, and so want to distribute them around the Area as fairly as possible. Every course will be open to all Branches and Centres.

The organiser should contact the relevant Area trainer (listed under the “Area Trainers” tab) and agree a date and time with them. It is the organiser’s responsibility to agree a date, time, and venue with the trainer, and to book and pay for this venue.

The organiser should then fill in the course booking form, and return this to Stefanie Brazier at The Pony Club Office at least four weeks before the date of the course.
Safeguarding Workshop Booking Form

If the course is approved, an online entry form will be created on The course will also be listed on The Pony Club website, and the details of the course sent to the Area Rep and Regional Centre Co-ordinator.

The course costs £20 for each person to attend, which is paid securely through PayPal. All bookings are done online - up to twelve people can be entered at one time. Each entry will receive a confirmation email.

A sign in sheet will be sent to the organiser by email a few days before the course. The organiser should print this off, and ask all attendees to sign in. A copy (scan, photo, or original by post) should be sent to The Pony Club Office. Certificates of attendance will then be sent directly to attendees by post.
