Future Stars Shine Through the Rain at The Pony Club Championships - Day 1

The Pony Club Championships, kindly supported by Berkeley Group, got underway today at Chomondeley Castle, Cheshire.

The rain poured but the talent didn’t stop with Novice level competitors from across the country showing their skills in Dressage and Show Jumping.

In the Vibac 3D Worming Novice Team Show Jumping it was a win for the Heythrop Hunt team of Izzy Lovatt (12), Harry Rugman (13), Alice Griffin (15) and Eugena Barker (9) who were the only team to jump a double clear! “We are all so pleased to be here!” trilled the team, with Eugena Barker saying a special ‘thank you’ to Branch Member Amity Thwaites, who had not been able to attend, allowing Eugena attend and be a part of the winning team.

Over in the Virbac 3D Worming Individual Show Jumping is was a win for Betsy Cronk (12) from the Whaddon Chase, riding Vinnigin Finnigin, and two seconds clear of her competition who commented “It doesn’t feel real, I would like to thank my show jumping coach Mandy McGlynn, and also my mum and brother”.

The NAF Superflex Dressage saw a high standard with the Meynell Hunt team of Chloe Naylor (12), Katie Gordon (11), Holly Clarke (11) and Sammy Harvey (12) out in front; Holly alone producing an incredible score of 80%.

In the NAF Superflex Individual Dressage, the 12 strong ride off saw two competitors from each of the six arenas battling it out for the overall individual honours. Holly Clarke, riding Newoak Truffel, was again out in front and clear of the competition by 3% and finishing on 76.47%. “I think it’s really cool, and I wasn’t expecting it” giggled Holly when asked how she felt about being a part of the winning Novice Team and the overall Individual winner. Holly went on to say “I am glad we won as a team, as we all put in the effort and we would all like to thank our Dressage coach Jane Critchley, our parents and everyone who supported us; we hope to be back next year!

There was also success for Caitlin Padfield (20), who made the long journey down from the Bennachie Branch worthwhile, to take the honours in the NAF Superflex Elite Dressage competition with on a score of 74.26% riding Upside Van de Kwikaard; a horse which is the half brother to Olympic superstar Valegro, ridden by Charlotte Dujardin!
