The Pony Club held their annual Cubitt Awards ceremony at Stratford Manor, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire on Monday May 28th.
The annual awards take their name from the late Hon Guy Cubitt, who was the Chairman of The Pony Club for 25 years and President from 1970 – 1979, and are held in honour of volunteers who have given in excess of 20 years to The Pony Club. A total of 74 awardees have been nominated for 2012, proving their incredible worth to The Pony Club with over 1700 years of combined voluntary service between them!
Among the awardees for 2012 many were husband and wife combinations, including Mr and Mrs Philip White who as some of the longest serving volunteers have been associated with Route Hunt since 1960; with Pony Club rallies being the background to both their friendship as well as their romance!
Following lunch, which provided a great opportunity for Pony Club officials to meet the awardees and hear all their wonderful stories, the ceremony was opened by Cherry Michell, Chairman of The Pony Club, who commented to awardees “you are the people who, by giving your time and energy so freely and over so many years, make The Pony Club one of the best youth organisations in the world; Col: Guy Cubbitt would have been very proud of you!â€
A citation for each of the 63 Cubitt Award attendees was given, whilst the individual awards were then kindly presented by Lady Lloyd Webber, President of The Pony Club.
