The Pony Club National Quiz Championship, generously sponsored by NFU Mutual, was held at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, on April 17th 2011.

The NFU National Quiz Championship saw over 100 Pony Club Members, in teams of four, competing from 19 Pony Club Branch and 10 Pony Club Centre teams, from all over England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. The 29 teams each gained their qualification for the NFU Mutual National Quiz final throughout the winter months through competing at Area level.

The Moray and Nairn Branch of The Pony Club had a long, but very worthwhile, journey down from Scotland as they took the first place honours for Pony Club Branch teams. The team of Anna MacFadyen, Lauren McCrossan, Lisa McCrossan and Jennifer Jones were undoubtedly helped by their maximum points score in round 8, and finished on a final score of 261.5 points, six points clear of their nearest rivals.

Naburn Grange Riding Centre, based in York, took first place for the Centre Teams. The team of Ellen Hobson, Kym Houlston, Sophie Adams and Frankie Gough clocked up a competitive score of 230 points, over 20 points clear of their nearest competitors.

The array of mascots on show for the mascot competition was also impressive this year, with the Worcestershire Hunt Branch stealing the show with their toy horses, dressed as Prince William and Kate Middleton!

The Quiz final consisted of eight rounds on the following topics:
• Round 1 - The Pony Club
• Round 2 - Farming & Countryside
• Round 3 - Equestrian Nations (their flags & capital cities)
• Round 4 - Horse & Pony Care
• Round 5 - Practical Round (Individual)
• Round 6 - Foot, Shoeing & First Aid
• Round 7 - Picture Round
• Round 8 - Odd One Out & Missing Words

“The standard of knowledge from all quiz competitors was as always extremely high”, commented Hannah Clack, Secretary for The Pony Club NFU Mutual Quiz, “and it was great to see Moray and Nairn receiving the 1st place honours for the Branches, after being 2nd in 2010.” “Special thanks must also go to NFU Mutual for their generous sponsorship and the provision of fantastic prizes for our Branch and Centre Members”
