The Pony Club Championships Sees Another Day of Awesome Action - Day 4

Day four of The Pony Club Championships, kindly supported by Berkeley Group, saw an array of action today at Chomondeley Castle, Cheshire.  The action was none stop across the sports of Eventing, Show Jumping, Mounted Games, Horse and Musical Ride!

Despite being the first team to jump in the Virbac 3D Worming Intermediate Team Show Jumping, the Romney Marsh team of Amy Hilton (16), Charlotte Hilton (13), Caroline Barbour (15) and Connie Wheeler put in a performance that stood strong throughout the competition and netted them the win.  The excited team thanked their Pony Club team trainer, Lena Pearson-Wood, and said they hoped to be back next year at Open level.

It was a double whammy for the Romney Marsh, as they also saw success in the Equi-Trek Senior Mounted Games, securing one of coveted final slots at the Prince Philip Cup final at Horse of the Year Show in October, along with the Wylye Valley Branch.

The Vibac 3D Worming Elite Show Jumping, now in its third year and open to Pony Club members aged 12 and above riding any level of BS/SJI Grade of pony or horse, saw a win for Orla Morrin (16), from the Old Berkeley Hunt South Branch with Adonis.

The NAF Magic Musical Ride produced 18 incredible colourful teams, with costumes ranging from Parakeets to Pirates, but was the East Cheshire Branch’s quite literally ‘magical musical ride’ with riders complete with magic wands and hats that produced rabbits that won everyone over to produce an incredible score of 93%. “We’ve been practising since May, twice a week” said the oldest Members of the team Keira and Louise, who thanked Emily Barnes and Susan Goodridge who had choreographed the ride for the Branch, before saying they would definitely be back next year to try and retain their title.

In the highly coveted Stonar Open Eventing Championships, the team honours were taken by the Flint & Denbigh Hunt Branch team of Lois Roberts (24), Brier Leahy (20), Sophie Toogood (22) and Heidi O’Brien (22); who had also enjoyed a second placing in the Virbac 3D Open Show Jumping earlier in the week. “It’s great to have won, as it’s my last year in Pony Club” commented Lois. Whilst the rest of the team thanked their parents for sacrificing so much, and said they would very much like to be back to defend their title in 2017.

The final day of action is underway, and will see the Stonar Intermediate Eventing Championship, Centre Equitation Competition and Young Equestrian Artist Award prize giving.
