Visitors to the Royal Windsor Horse Show (11-15th May) experienced a feast of Pony Club activities, with the three Pony Club disciplines of Mounted Games, Tetrathlon and Show Jumping, taking place throughout the show!
The ever popular DAKS International Pony Club Mounted Games took place daily, culminating with the nail biting final on the Sunday, which also enjoyed the Individual Show Jumping competition, the riding phase of the Tetrathlon and the presentation of the ‘Friends of DAKS’ Salver.
The DAKS International Mounted Games saw teams from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Scotland all doing battle for the converted title. Scotland headed into Sunday’s final with a nine point lead, but with double points up for grabs in the final races several teams were still very much in contention. Despite the tension, Scotland held their nerve to take the title on a score of 165 points! The team, trained by Julie Corr, comprised of Catriona Wallace, 14 (Angus Branch) Morven McLean, 13 (Angus Branch) Chelsea Gaffney, 14 (Eglinton Hunt Branch ) Robyn Donoghue, 13 (Eglinton Hunt Branch ) Jack Reid, 13 (Orkney Branch) and *Annabel Wilson, 14 (Strathearn Branch). The victorious team received their awards from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in the Castle Arena. The winning Scotland Team in the DAKS International Mounted Games. As a ‘thank you’ to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the reserve Members of each Mounted Games team presented a fantastic leather bound book with images, letters and stories from those who have competed in Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games over the years.
Success was in the air for Scotland as the Tetrathlon competition held on Saturday and Sunday, saw the Scottish team of Aylish Paisley (Eskdale Branch), Michael Craig (Eglinton Hunt Branch) and Christopher Liechti (Eglinton Hunt Branch) taking the team honours on a score of 14261. Michael Craig was also victorious in the Individual competition taking the title on a score of 4887, closely followed by Christopher in 2nd place on a score of 4797. The running, shooting and riding phases of the Tetrathlon were all held within the castle grounds, making interesting viewing for those who have never seen the sport in action before.
32 Pony Club Members from Pony Club Areas eight, 11, 12 and 13 were selected by their Area Representatives to take part in the Individual Show Jumping competition on Sunday, in the Frogmore Arena. First place honours went to Georgina Philpot from the West Middlesex Branch, riding Magneto Supreme
