The Dengie Winter League Championships 2012

The prestigious Pony Club Winter League Show Jumping and Dressage Championships 2012, generously sponsored by Dengie Horse Feeds Ltd the UK’s leading manufacturer of fibre-based horse feeds, were held at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, on March 31st - April 1st.

A long standing Pony Club sponsor, Marketing Manager of Dengie Horse Feeds, Lisa Wilson, commented “Dengie is proud to have supported The Pony Club Winter League Championships for more than 15 years and was delighted to have been present at this popular annual event, which offers grassroots riders the chance to take part in a championship competition”.

Despite a nip in the air, there was some hot competition across both the Show Jumping and Dressage competitions, with winners coming from all over the UK.

The Winter League Show Jumping kicked off the weekend, and following the first round of competition a strong field of 26 competitors went forward to the jump off. Helena Gurdin (20) riding Hillowan Bumble Bee, from the Cobham Branch of The Pony Club, resisted the pressure and took the title following a faultless jump off in a time of 30.52.
Later in the day the standard of the Open level competition also proved high, with Conor Cunnigham (14) from the Iveagh Branch, making his trip across the water worthwhile, with a win on Wellcheek Girl, in a time 28.24 with no faults to add.

Sunday saw some welcome sunshine, and strong grassroots Dressage competition throughout the day. Following the first round, four competitors went through the ride off for the Winter League Novice competition with Alicia Feledziak (16), from the North Staffordshire Hunt Branch, taking the title with Top Hat on a mark of 69%.  The Open competition also enjoyed solid competition with Imogen Elliott (16), from the Ashford Valley Hunt Branch, taking the top hours in the ride off with her partner Fools Gold, on a mark of 73.87%. “I have been a member of The Pony Club since I was five, so I was proud to represent my Branch at the Dengie Winter League Championships, and even more proud to be able to tell my Branch District Commissioner that we had won”, commented Imogen, “it really was one of the best weekends of my life!”

“We were extremely impressed with the high standard of riding and turnout this year and enjoyed meeting the competitors and their families” commented Lisa Wilson. Our team of nutritionists were kept busy throughout the entire weekend, weighing horses and ponies, and providing dietary advice for everyone who came to the Dengie stand”.
