Sunshine and Smiles on Day Five of The Pony Club Championships

The sun was out for the final day of the Berkeley Group Pony Club Championships, and supporters were out in force!

There were strong performances in the PC100 Eventing, but coming out on top was Tom Griffiths, Poppy Wilkinson, Georgia Toulson-Clarke and Ellie Clarke from the Wylye Valley. The team wore Willberry Wonder Pony hat silks, and carried Willberries around the Cross Country course.

In the Howden Centre Equitation Josie Wood, Will Tomlinson, Emily King and Georgia Moffat from Naburn Grange Riding Centre won with 452.5 points. It was the first time they had been to The Pony Club Championships, and they all agreed it was much bigger and better than they expected.

The spectacular Musical Ride never fails to entertain onlookers, and this year was no exception; with our 15 teams producing some thrilling, beautifully choreographed rides with themes ranging from The Greatest Showman to The Royal Wedding. The East Cheshire Hunt team finished on top with a score of 94.3% with their ‘We are dreaming of a .....!’ Christmas themed ride.

Shortlisted entries for The John King Young Artist Competition were on display throughout the Championships, and judges Christopher Bromfield, Pony Club Vice Chairman, Clare Valori, Pony Club Vice Chairman and Jennifer Bell from the Society of Equestrian Artists found it hard to choose their winners from the 15 paintings and drawings which went through to the final stage.

The theme for this year was ‘Wild and Wonderful’ and it Ela Owen from the Conwy Community Riding Centre whose beautiful painting wowed the judges to take the top spot, and be part of the display at the Society of Equestrian Artists exhibition, where she will see her painting on display and receive a trophy.

That brings to a close our 2018 Championships at Cholmondeley Castle. A huge thank you to our sponsors, everyone who took part, the supporters who came along to watch and those who were part of our huge army of Volunteers.

We’re already planning our 2019 Pony Club Championships, where we will be celebrating our 90th birthday.
