Despite heavy periods on rain throughout the week, matches were played on July 11th, 12th and 14th with teams challenging each other in a round robin tournament. The play off on Saturday July 16th, saw USA take third sport over Northern Ireland in fourth on a score of 12-5, but not disheartened by their lower placing in the competition both teams decided to make the most of the weather, enjoying a mud fight!

So it was left to Great Britain and England to battle it out for first and second places on Sunday July 17th, and battle they did! By chukka two Great Britain were proving dominant, but England were determined to keep up the pressure and the ever loudening support from the sidelines seemed to spur them on in chukkas three and four. Eventually, despite a gallant effort, Great Britain proved too much for England and took victory on a score of 13-7.

There was also plenty of chance to socialize with players from other nations with a trip to Warwick Castle and Stratford upon Avon, followed by fish and chips, and the all important party after the World Cup final!

“Playing has been the highlight, but it has been really interesting to meet and see how the other nations play” commented Emily Gilfillan, from the Rockwood Harriers Branch. “If I had not been a Member of The Pony Club, this may be an opportunity I would not have had!”
