Guineas Aiming to Kickstart Childrens’ Interest in Horseracing

Young racegoers attending the QIPCO Guineas Festival at Newmarket Racecourse on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May will find a bigger selection of exciting activities on offer than ever before, thanks to the introduction of a new ‘Pony Club Zone’ run by QIPCO British Champions Series in partnership with The Pony Club.

The ‘Pony Club Zone’, which will be located on the Boulevard Lawn near the Grandstand & Paddock entrance, will offer a range of free activities including bitesize lessons at ‘Jockey School’, the chance to meet a former Royal Ascot winning racehorse close-up and demonstrations from a farrier. Attendees will be able to earn a ‘Horseracing Certificate’ through participation in these activities.

The ‘Pony Club Zone’ also aims to educate the younger generation about horseracing and to make the Guineas Festival as accessible and enjoyable as possible. Attendees will receive a ‘Horseracing Handbook’, which is full of activities and information that aims to give young racegoers the knowledge and tools to follow and engage in this year’s QIPCO British Champions Series. This prestigious Series features 35 of Britain’s best Flat races, beginning with the QIPCO 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas.

On the second day of the Guineas Festival, Sunday 7th May, Pony Club members will also attend, in order to earn their ‘Intro to Pony Racing’ badge. On this day, attendees will also get the chance to partake in a pre-racing tour of the racecourse and to meet a racing pony.

All of the activities on offer across the two days will not only keep younger racegoers entertained, but will give an insight into the opportunities that exist for young people within the racing industry, such as pony racing and courses at the British Racing School.

QIPCO British Champions Series comes to its exhilarating conclusion on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 21st October. More exciting activities for young racegoers will run alongside the best horseracing action that Britain has to offer, as some of the world’s most valuable thoroughbreds fight it out at Europe’s end-of-season finale.

Under 18s go free to the QIPCO Guineas Festival when accompanied by a paying adult. Activities in the ‘Pony Club Zone’ are free to attend. For more information about the ‘Pony Club Zone’ and to book your Guineas Festival tickets, click HERE
