Excitement grows for the NFU Mutual Eventing Championships

Three of our Members shared their experiences with us after recently competing at NFU Mutual’s Area 12’s Eventing Area competition, as they looked to secure a place at The Berkeley Group Pony Club Championships.

Ella Bollon who was experiencing her first Novice Area Eventing competition with her pony Crunchie enjoyed every moment including the result.

“We were not expecting great things, as we are still getting to know each other, Crunchie was a superstar after the Dressage! We came 9th, I know not the best result, but for us it was fantastic.”

After also competing in a team of three with her friends Polly and Lucy, they are already planning for next year’s Area competition.

Becky Short from Northampton Pony Club celebrated individual success riding her pony Blossom to secure her place at The Pony Club Championships, even if it did come as a surprise.

“We had a brilliant day with our Pony Club friends, trainer and Branch DC. I have brought Blossom on for the last 4 years and this is the last season that we are going to be together so we just went out there to have fun and enjoy every minute.

“When the results went up and I had a big ‘Q’ written next to my name we couldn’t quite believe that I would be going to The Championships as an individual. We are thoroughly looking forward to a weekend up in Cheshire and I am going to enjoy competing with my little pony for one of the last times.”

Hannah Leeson and her horse Ronald enjoyed team success as part of the OBH Hughenden team qualifying their place in the finals.

“We all arrived early to walk the Show Jumping course together with our team trainer Sophie Moultrie. We had all walked the Cross Country course together the day before.

“The field was filling up fast with horseboxes giving the feel of a large event. This was helped by the stalls and loud speaker. Once the riding commenced it all flew by, we went straight from the Dressage to the Show Jumping and finally to the Cross Country. There were some quick tack changes!”
