ANIMAL HEALTH TRUST AND THE PONY CLUB ASK MEMBERS TO PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR PONY POWER

Pony Club Branches and Centres, across the UK, are being asked to pledge their support online for the Animal Health Trust’s Pony Power campaign.

2011 is the second year the Animal Health Trust (AHT) has been The Pony Club’s charity of the year. Both charities hope that by the end of this year £100,000 will have been raised for the AHT’s vital work which improves the lives of countless horses, dogs and cats. The AHT, based in Suffolk, treats more than 3,000 horses, cats and dogs each year through its clinics. Its scientific programmes also benefit thousands of animals.

Peter Webbon, Chief Executive of the AHT, said: “In 2010 the Pony Power campaign raised £40,000 and, by the end of this year, we’re hoping to increase that to £100,000. We’re asking every Pony Club Branch and Centre to pledge to raise £100 for our work. Everyone who pledges will see their Branch or Centre name appear on our online Puissance Wall!”

Pony Club Members are asked to visit the Pony Power website (www.ponypower.org.uk) anytime during May and June to make their pledge via a simple online form. Names of Branches and Centres who pledge will be added to the Puissance Wall on the website regularly.

If Pony Club Members raise £100,000, the AHT will name a dedicated equine laboratory on its site after The Pony Club. The names of all Branches and Centres that have contributed to the Pony Power campaign in 2010 and 2011 will be commemorated on the wall of The Pony Club Laboratory.

Judy Edwards, The Pony Club Chief Executive, said: “This is such a wonderful opportunity for The Pony Club to be forever linked to the amazing work of the Animal Health Trust. We were all delighted with the outcome of last year’s campaign which resulted from so many innovative fundraising ideas from our Branches and Centres across the country.

“We now hope to see every Branch and Centre name added to the fast growing puissance wall and subsequently honoured by inclusion on the commemorative wall of the new laboratory.”

As an added incentive, every Pony Club Branch or Centre who meets, or exceeds, the £100 target will be entered into a draw to win an exclusive eventing clinic with top UK eventer Lucy Wiegersma and cross-country course designer Eric Winter.

In 2010 the equivalent prize, a dressage clinic with WEG triple silver medallist Laura Bechtolsheimer, was won by The Pony Club’s Burghley branch.
Peter added: “Last year we were able to let a lot of Pony Club Members know how important what we do, behind the scenes, is for their horses and ponies. This year we want to reinforce this message in the hope that even more Members will raise money for our work so we can continue to ensure that their horses and ponies remain happy and healthy.”
