A Fantastic Time at The Pony Club Championships 2011

The Pony Club Championships took place, August 13th-16th at Draycott House, Derbyshire across the five disciplines of Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Mounted Games and Polocrosse.  Around 1800 Pony Club Members from all over the country, including Northern Ireland, attended to compete, as well as hundreds of supporters in the form of family and friends.

As the pinnacle of many Pony Club Members career’s the Open level competitions produced some fantastic results, and highlights included the East Essex Branch winning the highly coveted Open Team Eventing, the Albrighton Woodland Hunt Branch winning the Equest & Equest Pramox Open Team Show Jumping and the Garth Hunt Branch taking the Carr & Day & Martin Open Team Dressage honours.

Bramham Moor Hunt Mounted Games team clinched victory in the Junior Championship, supported by NFU Countryside, whilst the Strathearn and Cheshire Hunt North Branches battled their way to a place each in the Prince Philip Cup final at the Horse of the Year Show.

In the Polocrosse, sponsored by NFU Mutual, the North Warwickshire Branch achieved the hat-trick winning the Maldon Championship for the third year in a row!

As well as all the main discipline action there was also a new Musical Ride competition, supported by the Worshipful Company of Loriners. Teams of up to 12 riders showed off their riding skill to music, dressed in fabulous themed costumes, and saw the West Lancashire Country shining through with their amazing ‘West Lancs Train Line’.

There was also stiff competition in the Horse and Pony Care Competition, supported by The Blue Cross, with Sandown Chase Branch taking the Senior title and Old Berkshire Hunt the Junior winners; and in the Centre Equitation competition, supported by Windsor Partners, there was success for the Croxteth Park team.

“It has been a very happy Championship” commented Cherry Michell, Chairman of The Pony Club. “The weather has been kind to us, and we have had some brilliant results show casing the end results of The Pony Club’s solid training structure, but most importantly we have had lots of happy competitors and fun”.
