Regional Tetrathlon Competition 2011 Important Rule Change
Partly because we have less entries than usual for the Tetrathlon Regional Competition in August 2011 ( which has been only for open competitors) and partly to try out a possible new format, the Pony Club Tetrathlon Committee (with the full backing of the Pony Club Equestrian Council) have made changes to the rules for this event with immediate effect. These allow Intermediate competitors to compete in a Regional Team under the following conditions.
The riding phase for the Tetrathlon Regional Competition will be at Intermediate Standard/Level 4 (BE100)
The distance of the running phase for ALL boys competing will be 3000m. The distance of the running phase for ALL girls competing will be 1500m
ALL boys competing will score points for the distance they have swum in 4 minutes. ALL girls competing will score points for the distance they have swum in 3 minutes.
Regional teams can be made up of all open competitors, all intermediate competitors or any mixture of Intermediate and open competitors. By allowing this, it is hoped that EVERY Region will be able to put forward a team of Girls and a team of Boys for the Tetrathlon Regional Competition.
Intermediate Members competing for a Tetrathlon Regional Team will remain eligible to compete at Intermediate Tetrathlon Area Qualifiers and qualify and compete at the Intermediate Tetrathlon Championships. Page 12, Rule 5b pt 3 of the 2011 Tetrathlon Rule Book should now read ‘Competitors in the Intermediate Competition should not have previously competed at any Open Competition and above at Tetrathlon.
Changes to Firearm Legislation
With effect from 1 October 2007, the age limit for possessing without adult supervision, hiring or purchasing an air weapon has risen from 17 to 18.
Fibre-optic Sites
Fibre-optic sights (on the Weihrauch HW40 pistol pictured below) are not allowed under Pony Club Tetrathlon Rules. The Weirhrauch HW40 pistol is permitted, provided that the coloured plastic parts are removed or blacked out.

Unfortunately there is an error in the Eventing, Show Jumping, Tetrathlon and Pony Racing rulebooks. The rule referring to Micklem bridles is incorrect. Please amend as follows: “The Micklem Multibridle is permitted". Remove "only with a simple snaffle bit, as per current Dressage rules.”
