Kickstart Raceday At York Racecourse - Saturday 27th May 2017

Looking for something to do on your Spring Bank Holiday weekend? Why not come along to York Racecourse with your Pony Club friends on Saturday 27th May to discover the exciting sport of horseracing, find out what it takes to be a jockey and get up close to the thoroughbred racehorse.

Earn your Horseracing Certificate and Intro to Pony Racing badge by partaking in a range of fun activities throughout the morning, before enjoying an afternoon of top class racing.

To earn your Horseracing Certificate you will:

  • Go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the racecourse, including a visit to the paddock, a walk out onto the track and check out the weighing room
  • Meet a racehorse and learn about the breed
  • Go to Jockey School, get dressed up in some jockey’s silks and have a bitesize lesson on one of the racehorse simulators
  • Learn about the different tack used by the horses and jockeys on a raceday

Other activities will include a ‘Design Your Own Colours’ competition and a ‘How to read your racecard’ session with former jump jockey Toby Becton.

All of the above will give you the skills and expertise to get the most out of the afternoon’s great racing action!
