The Percy Hunt Branch of The Pony Club have won the final of The NFU Countryside Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games held at Horse of The Year Show (HOYS), NEC Birmingham. NFU Countryside

The winning Percy Hunt team, comprised of Gemma Gibson (15), Grace Pettifer (13), Brogan Wilkin (14), Katie Dawson (13),  Suzanne Barwise-Munro (13), Kitty Chrisp (14, reserve) and the all important team trainer Alison Gibson. Having previously made it to the  Prince Philip Cup finals in 2007, the Percy Hunt were yet to take the title and so their win was a first; and what a close win, as there was just one point between them on 101 points and the second placed Sir Watkin Williams Wynn's Branch on 100 points!

Six Pony Club Branch teams including, Percy Hunt,  Sir Watkin Williams Wynn's, Devon and Somerset, CaPercy Huntmbridgeshire Hunt, Cheshire Hunt North and Atherstone Hunt  went forward to the final at HOYS after battling it out at the Zone Finals around the country during the summer.  At HOYS the competition really hot's up on the Thursday evening, and by the end of Sunday afternoon teams that have accumulated the most points during the week go on to meet in Sunday night's prestigious final to compete for NFU Countryside Prince Philip Cup.

The Pony Club Mounted Games is a competition requiring courage, determination and all round riding ability. The concept of the competition was first introduced by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT, who suggested that Cavalry competitions could be adapted for young riders on ponies in an entertaining and visually engaging format. The first competitions were held in 1957 and the winner received the coveted Prince Philip Challenge Trophy. The Pony Club Mounted Games is true team event, with five riders in each team the onus is definitely on working together as there are no individual events in this discipline.

"It was tight at the top this year" commented Emma Horton-Barr, Secretary for Pony Club Mounted Games. "As none of the qualifying Branches had previously won the Prince Philip Cup, it made the whole thing even more nail biting!"
