The Wheelton and District Branch was established in 1974 and is part of Pony Club Area 4.

The Pony Club is the number one organisation for young people who love ponies and riding. There are more than 43,000 Pony Club Members in Great Britain, belonging to either a Branch or a Centre - there are more than 350 of each of these. Membership of The Pony Club offers fun, friendship, training, events and competitions.  

Internationally The Pony Club has a membership of over 110,000 across 18 countries, making it the largest association of riders in the world. Most British equestrian medal winners at The Olympics and World Championships have been Members of The Pony Club.
 
Wheelton is quite a small branch (last count 43 members) and therefore there are lots of opportunities for members to get involved with lots of activities and to represent the club at interbranch competitions.
 We try to have something for everyone and in 2008 we have run working rallies, specialist rallies (show jumping and dressage), visits, fun rides, and lots of different pony club badges (map reading, wild flowers, birds). Members have had the opportunity to go to pony club camp and do pony club efficiency badges . We have sent teams and individuals to area competitions and interbranch competitions throughout the year. We also have our own annual show, hunter trials, one day event and combined training competitions.  
The club is very fortunate to have its own field for summer rallies, with an impressive cross country course including a water jump and a full set of show jumps. 

In the winter we use local indoor arenas for our rallies and we have a fancy dress and mounted games rally near Christmas.
