Then Hannah's horse Kiwi sustained an injury whilst unloading which required urgent veterinary treatment, so Jade kindly lent Page to Hannah to jump - well done Hannah for riding an unknown pony in a pressurised situation. We hope Kiwi gets well soon.

Saturday 23rd January 2010, Southdown East Branch Team Show Jumping at Ardingly.
Novice team 3rd
Sophie Brooks (Matchmaker II), Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation), Freya Warren (Ivor), Danielle Moore (Queen Charlotte).
A very exciting competition over a spooky course, with only one team out of 16 teams finishing on zero scores which left the placings open to the teams finishing on 4 and 8 faults. Our team were thrilled to be one of the fastest in the jump off resulting in 3rd place - well done team!
Dengie 1st round class
Jade Baxter (Page) 1st, Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) 4th, Sophie Brooks (Matchmaker II) 6th. A good result for the Surrey Union, congratulations.

Pony Club team Show Jumping held at Ardingly on 2nd and 3rd January 2010.
The New Year got off to a good start with our showjumping teams having great success at Ardingly.
Saturday 2nd January
mini mini level (1'9-2')
individual scurry class - Millie Gover (Piwi) 1st, Clarissa Burnell Price (Casper) 5th.
team class - our team of Millie Gover (Piwi), Clarissa Burnell Price (Casper) and George Grassley (Tyler) came 4th. This is a brilliant result especially as they were a team of three. Well done!
Novice level (2'6-9")
individual scurry class - Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) 5th. Nearly all our members were clear and fast in this class but with over 90 competitors and only 6 rosettes the competition was fierce so well done to Sarah for doing so well.
team class - Again, a huge class with 19 teams taking part. Our 'Snowflakes' team of Sophie Brooks (Bush the Timekeeper), Patrick Beirne (Springleigh PK), Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) and Naomi Payton (The Sandman) sadly finished on 4 faults which was not enough to take them through to the jump off. However, the 'Sparklers' team - Katie Calvert (Riley), Danielle Moore (Queen Charlotte), Freya Warren (Ivor) and Katie Collis (Hot Toddy) finished on a team score of zero and were finally placed 3rd! - congratulations to all of you. (team photo below)

Sunday 3rd January
mini level (2'-2'3)
individual scurry class - Everyone went clear in this class but as with the Novices, it was a big class and resulted in a win for Natasha Goldman (Rosemellyn Bubbling Brook).
team class - our team of Isabella Calvert (Rusty Roo), Natasha Goldman (Rosemellyn Bubbling Brook), Lucy Crichton (Ballyshiel Larry) and Madeleine Davies (Sir Boycie) all jumped clear to qualify for the jump off. One member from each team was chosen to jump off, but disaster struck when Natasha suffered a crashing fall in the warm up, moments before she was due to jump off. Paramedics suspected a broken collar bone so she was strapped up and dashed off to A&E. With great speed Izzy then jumped on Rusty and went straight into the ring with no warm up and flew round the course to WIN the class for the team. Well done to Izzy for keeping cool under the pressure and well done to Natasha for being brave. After a visit to ESH Natasha hadn't broken anything but badly wrenched and brusied her shoulder so we wish her a speedy recovery. (team photo below)

Open level (3'3-6")
individual scurry class - a WIN for Georgina Wood (Snowdon Ozzie), with Nathalie George (Dunlewy Blue Print) 3rd and Jade Baxter (Mickey) 5th.
team class - Our team of Georgina Wood (Snowdon Ozzie), Nathalie George (Dunlewy Blue Print), Tammy Vernon (Graf Truely) and Jade Baxter (Mickey) were the only team out of 14 teams to go clear, resulting in a brilliant WIN for the branch - this is the first time the Surrey Union have won the open trophy at Ardingly for TWENTY YEARS so huge congratulations to the team. Novice (2'9") individual
Jade Baxter (Robin) 1st, Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) 4th, Patrick Beirne (Springleigh PK) 5th, Jade Baxter (Page) 7th.
This was a big class and well represented by SU members - many of whom went double clear but sadly not all were fast enough to be in the placings.
Dengie Winter League 1st round
Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) 2nd (Sarah has qualified for the area final being hosted by our branch in the Spring - well done Sarah!).

The Area 11 show jumping qualifiers were held this year at Godinton Park, Ashford, Kent, hosted by the Ashford Valley Branch. This was a huge event with over 70 teams competing so a very long day for everyone.
The Surrey Union were well represented and the members did the branch proud by being very highly placed in the turnout competition - well done teams, you all looked lovely.
1st - Novice team
2nd - Intermediate team
7th - Open team
The jumping results are as follows:
Novice team placed 4th overall
Patrick Beirne (Springleigh PK), Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation), Hannah Parker Smith (Biscuit), Henrietta Walker Duncalf (Megor).
In addition, Patrick Beirne and Springleigh PK were placed 3rd overall individually, and have qualified to jump at the national championships later this month! Sarah Bliss and Kingstown Jubilation narrowly missed out on a place in the championships but did very well to be placed 5th individually.
Intermediate team placed 3rd overall.
Georgina Wood (Snowdon Ozzie), Charlotte White (Charles), Cammie Millar (Dollar Du Murier), Charlotte Flammiger (Mister Crackerjack).
In addition, Georgina Wood and Snowdon Ozzie WON individually, and have also qualified for the national championships!
Open team placed 7th overall.
Tilly Warren (Tegwyn), Anna Calvert (Pembridge Welcome), Ollie Goffin (Ronaldo), Tammy Vernon (Unbelievable).
A brilliant first round on a zero score left the open team in the top two, but an unfortunate second round meant they dropped to 7th place.

Hickstead National Open Pony Club Teams Championship 5th August 2009
Our open showjumping team qualified for this event earlier in the summer and it was an honour for them to have the chance to compete at championship level at Hickstead. The course was a full up 1m15 (3'9") in the first round. The team of Jade Baxter (Mickey), Tilly Warren (Tegwyn), Ollie Goffin (Ronaldo) and Tammy Vernon (Unbelievable) unfortunately finished the first round on a fairly respectable 12 faults but sadly it was not enough to go through to the jump off in the main arena. Congratulations to the team for representing the branch - the photo shows them parading in the main arena with their Hickstead rosettes.

Bullock Cup and Hickstead Qualifier Showjumping at Mid Surrey Branch on Sunday 5th July 2009.
A very exciting day for our senior teams at Mid Surrey competing in the Bullock Cup and Hickstead Qualifier classes. Despite the hard ground everyone pulled out the stops for some fabulous results - well done once again to the Surrey Union!!
Bullock Cup (novice). This is a three round all-day competition, starting at 2'9". It was a big class with 17 teams, and a long day. All team members have to jump two rounds in increasing height, and then go on to a bigger jump off at 3'3". Our team of Jade Baxter (on new ride, Axel), Patrick Beirne (Springleigh PK), Sarah Bliss (Kingstown Jubilation) and Henrietta Walker Duncalf (Megor) pulled out all the stops to all jump a double clear and then onto a speedy jump off, resulting in a WIN for the branch. Well done team! (see photo below).

The Open team had success too, in the Hickstead Qualifier class. This is a full up course, again over three levels, starting at 1m 10 (3'6"). The team of Jade Baxter (Mickey), Ollie Goffin (Ronaldo), Tilly Warren (Tegwyn) and Tammy Vernon (Unbelieveable) came THIRD and have qualified to jump at the national finals at Hickstead on the 5th August. (see photo below). The team also came 3rd in the turnout class - so well done for looking so smart.
