What a great season for the Surrey Union Intermediate Eventing Team with a first place individual and a team 5th at the Championships. Qualifying for this year's One Day Event Pony Club Championships was a great achievement, with Anna Calvert, Nathalie George, Hayley Meeking, LucyAnna Westaway and Charlotte White all putting in great performances at the Brightling qualifier to ensure the Surrey Union was represented at the Championships.

Held in Draycott, Derbyshire, the team of LucyAnna, Anna, Charlotte and Hayley were up against 29 other teams and all put in solid dressage performances to place the team in the running after phase one. A tricky, twisty showjumping course caught many of the other competitors out, but LucyAnna and Charlotte both went clear, and with Hayley and Anna completing on just 8 faults each the team was well in the running going into the cross country.

The cross country course was worthy of a championship, with a number of very big questions being asked in the second half of the course. But with expert tips gleaned from coursewalks with Janette Brakewell and Sophie Spear all four partnerships (Anna Calvert and Pembridge Welcome, Haley Meeking and Grumpy in the Morning, LucyAnna Westaway and Raindance III and Charlotte White and Riley) all four members rode tremendous rounds with all going clear.

With all the scores in, everyone's performance had delivered 5th place for the Surrey Union out of the 29 qualifying teams. To add to this, at individual level LucyAnna Westaway had built upon her third place dressage score with a double clear to get a 1st individual placing.

Surrey Union pony club was represented at Burghley Horse Trials by Jenny Wijsmuller and Flame! They took part in the mini Burghley event pony class held on Sunday 7 September, gaining top marks (60 out of 70) for the dressage phase, and then jumping a lovely clear round, despite difficult conditions underfoot! They finished in 8th place, out of 49 entries, well done to Jenny and Flame!

Chilham One Day Event - 8th August

Both our novice and intermediate teams won with good consistent performances throughout.  All 8 team members went clear cross country although the show jumping caused a few problems.  However out of an intermediate section of 40 only 3 riders showjumped clear and two were from Surrey Union!
