Next Clinic Sykehouse 15th April 10am - 1pm   £30  limited to  8 riders

Short summary of the SJ training at Sykehouse

We held a training clinic with Scott Smith at Sykehouse over the February half-term.  We used both the main ring with a full set of BSJA showjumps and lots of fillers which were left out from the previous day's affiliated show and the collecting ring with the practice fences.
We had 8 riders and horses/ponies taking part.

Scott decided to go through a day's competition.  Scott firstly did a course wallk, explaining distances in doubles and related distances (3 or 4 strides between fences), dog legs, and how they were altered according to the height of the pony, horses all went on one distance.

He had brought two of his own horses with him to show exactly what he was looking to achieve.

Firstly he rode an experienced horse called Peter who was very confused to be at a show on his own.  He was quite fresh and Scott had an interesting moment in the collecting ring when Peter decided to have a 4 year old moment and bronc !!
He explained what the riders should do in the warm up, what practice fences to jump, and to watch a few riders jump the course if you can before you go into the ring.  He then went into the ring a jumped a round at about 1.10m, then went back over some of the related distances to show again how many strides etc.

Then back into the collecting for a cool down session.

The first pair to jump were Laura Bramhill and Becky Anderson, both riding young horses.  Again Scott showed them how to warm up and then jump in the ring.  They started off over about 90cm and then we put some of the fences up - both horses were impressive and had improved a lot since we started jumping a few weeks ago.

Next two more experienced combinations, Ailsa Drew and Bradley Ibbotson went through the routine and jumped about a 1.10m course, with some of the fences going up later.

Scott then got out his other horse, a youngster by Scott's jumping stallion Cabri D'Elle  (I think that's how it's spelt !).  He was also a bit fresh but as he is not used to standing on the trailer, it was also good practice for him.  Scott jumped a smaller course on him so the difference in experience could be seen.

The distances were changed for the 14.2s,  Joe Dowse on Buddy and Dannielle Ibbotson on Nellie they jumped two very nice rounds.  Joe is getting a nice partnership together with Buddy - well done !

Last, but not least the two 12.2s went,  Jai on Lucy and Amber, again both jumped really well.

An enjoyable and informative day was had by all.

 Burghley 2009

3rd Sept was the first day of Burghley and also the day the Pony Club hold their team show jumping event, as many as 35 pony clubs send a team to enter this great event, riders have to be under 18 years of age.

Our team was Bradley Ibbotson on Ted, Michaela Harness on Wacko Jacko, Suzie Glentworth on Ben and Grace Webster on Jack.

Michaela was first away and got the team of to a great start with a lovely clear round  just having a sticky moment at the last combination, Bradley was next away and again jumping really well he had an early fence down and then a stop at the last combination, then Suzie and Ben were in the ring and another lovely clear round followed by another clear round for Grace and Jack, we were able to drop Bradley score and that left us on three clear rounds and a place in the jump off. At the end of the first round 12 teams had gone through on 0.

In the jump off the teams jumped all the no 1's first then  all the number 2's and so on.

Michaela first away again for Scunthorpe came home with a creditable 4 faults which was at the triple combination the last fence, Bradley learnt by his mistakes in the first round a gave us our 1st clear, a well jumped round, Suzie  had the 2nd fence down finishing on 4 faults and Grace and Ben put in a sterling performance going as anchor man  she could make the difference to where the team finished, and she produced another lovely clear round. The team were very excited to say the least.

The team finished in third place with a total of 4 faults, 1st went toour neighbouring club the Burton who finished on 0 but won with the fastest time and Fitzwilliam finished 2nd also on 0 but slower time

This was a great result for us it is a while since we have been in the line up. WELL DONE TEAM.

2008

Area(Open) intermediate and novice team show jumping Hargate on Sat  9 August 2008

The Area 6 Showjumping this year was held at Hargate and was again run by the Meynell Hunt branch. The Open showjumping was held on the grass arena, which became very slippery as it rained all the way through the competition! Fortunately for us, the course builder built a fair course with some testing distances and a variety of nice jumps. There were clear rounds right from the beginning of the class and the course seemed to be jumping well, despite the rain and muddy ground. Claire Farnham walked the course with the team, calmed us all down and warmed us up. She also had to walk the novice and intermediate courses and warm up the two novice teams and an intermediate team so thanks a lot Claire!!
In the first round the first to go in our team was Karen Lamb and Bertie Bubble, who were going clear right up to the second to last fence when Bertie thought he knew better and unfortunately had it down. Second to go was Anna Sutton and Salvador who went clear but had one time fault. Becki Pass was next with Isaac and jumped a clear round, even though Isaac was a last minute replacement for Becki's other horse! Nicola Whitmore and Toto were last to go and jumped another clear round, so at the end of round one, the team went through on 1 fault.
In the second round, the fences had been put up a couple of holes, a water tray added and a double was turned into a treble. The second round didn't seem to be jumping as well as the first, which was understandable since the rain was slowly turning the grass into mud. Karen was first and jumped a clear, Anna went second and jumped clear, Becki jumped clear until fence 7 when her studs failed her and went through the combination so she retired. Nic had an unfortunate pole down at the last part of the treble which was such a shame because all the horses were jumping so well! The team ended up coming 4th on 5 faults, a brilliant result considering the weather and the surface we jumped on. Well done team!
