2009 REPORTS

JUNIOR HUNTER TRIAL 20TH SEPTEMBER 2009

Junior/Novice Hunter Trial Report

With a glorious day predicted, the turnout was high with 147 horse/rider combinations enjoying the course. The course, built by Mrs. and Mrs. Packe - Drury - Lowe was fabulous and had a good variety of fences and imaginative decorative touches to some! I’d like to thank them for allowing us the use of their land and course, and for all their help setting it up and on the day itself. Edward even stepped in as our last minute commentator and did a great job….many thanks!

The event needs a huge number of volunteers to be able run and I must thank all who helped set up, on the day and packing away at the end. Without this big team effort events like this simply wouldn’t run.

I have already had numerous emails and calls from people saying what a great day they had…so your help really makes a difference and is noticed.

We had a very successful 4 days.  55 attended the 4 day camp, and 20 the 3 day with 13 rides altogether.  We had excellent instruction and everyone made progress during their time at camp.  The weather was atrocious on Wednesday, but this did not daunt most of our members.  The younger ones went home, but most of the older ones stayed, doing SJ and XC despite the weather, with some members doing stable management and tests.

Awards and Tests taken at camp

Jingle Bells Trophy (for best girl) – we couldn’t separate the best girls, they were all excellent at everything, so this trophy was shared between Lizzie Best, Grace Mulligan and Alice Murfitt

QHPC 80TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW AT PRESTWOLD

Show at Prestwold Hall

Thankyou to everybody that came to the show on Wed 22nd July at Prestwold Hall. I hope everybody had a fun time. A big thankyou must go to Edward and Juliet Packe Drury Lowe for having us. The weather was reasonably kind in that it didn’t really rain but the wind did make putting up and taking down the tent a many hands hanging on job! Thanks to Mr Murfitt for his great job of anchoring down the tent, I wasn’t sure it would still be there on Wed morning. Thanks also to the hunt supporters for lending us the tent and to Sue Hatton for telling us how to put it up.
The working hunter ring ran excellently thanks to Shona and Teri Rudkin, Tilly Abraham and Hannah Brook Lawson. A big thankyou to the judges Mim Johnson and Michael Freestone who gave up their day to help us, I hope they enjoyed it.
The pony show jumping had huge entries and thanks to Natalie and Sharon Mulligan it ran brilliantly. The horse show jumping was lacking in entries because most of the older ones gave up their time to help. Thanks to Val and Tiff Eggleston for organising this ring with the help of the Lonsdale Family. They even ran a fun accumulator class at the end.
The handy pony ring was full of windy surprises for anybody who dared to enter, thanks to Helen Smith Hilliard and family for setting up and running it. And to the Savage family for helping.
Last but not least the fun ring was started off by some wonderful fancy dress entries. Thanks to all those mums who went to so much effort to dress up children and ponies. It was wonderful to see them all, and I’m glad that I didn’t have to judge them! Check out the Colbeck photo web site to see for yourself.
The gymkhana games ran with much noise and enthusiasm thanks to Celia Frew and Diane Atton. The day ended with an exciting higher and higher competition with a real mixture of ponies competing and the crowd oowing and aarring!
A huge thankyou from me to those ladies that helped in the entries tent, Nutty Abraham, Carol Davis, Nicki Grayson, and Sarah Greaves on stand by. Sorry for getting you there so early!   Also thanks to those that offered help and weren’t needed, Alix Davis and her dad, and the Greaves’. Also thanks to the ladies that made lunches for the workers, it was very much appreciated.
I hope everybody enjoyed the day, I did and didn’t get any complaints so I’m presuming it went well.We made £750 for pony club funds so THANKS to all the above and anybody else that I have missed out.

Debbie Machin.

SENIOR HUNTER TRIALS -26TH APRIL 2009 - AT BROOKSBY COLLEGE

A huge thank you to all of those who gave up their Sunday to help at this years Senior Hunter Trials at Brooksby:
Mandy Hickling, Julie and Eva Carrier: A fantastic job taking entries and remaining calm and organised under pressure!
Charlotte Barker: General help with car park and running was much appreciated.
Shaun Cripps: Great job collecting scores on his quad, and managing to compete and get placed in both the novice and open!
Kate and Gill Moir: Ex pony club member and pony club mum (from the early 90's!) did a fantastic job as first time scorers.
Polly Shields: Great job as starter.
Julie and Lisa Mee: Probably the worst job of the day-tack checking in the warm up ring. Insisting that non pony club members abide with current pony club rules (clearly stated on the schedule) proved to be quite a challenge. However, they coped brilliantly, despite a couple of rude and awkward competitors, and ensured the smooth running of the event.
Michael and Sharan Mulligan: Survived the day in the commentary box, and still speaking to each other (and me) at the end of the day.
All fence judges (a mixture of current and ex pony club members, parents and friends) did a sterling job, and a big thank you to Robert and Glenice Lonsdale, Nick Cripps, Adrian Cooper, Michaela Isles and Jayne Walker who all helped in some way to make this event possible.
I hope all those involved with this years event, whether as a competitor, parent or helper, enjoyed their day in the sunshine, and I hope to see you again next year!
Natalie

GAMES RALLY REPORT

Despite the wintery weather and icy conditions, there was a good turn out for the rally at Brooksby on Sunday. The children were split into 2 groups by Natalie and Caroline, with their groups practising various games techniques before stopping for a hot chocolate break ! It was just what was needed to warm everyones fingers up before the races began.
The teams then competed against each other doing bending, flag races, mugs race, ride and run, etc,  before finishing off with a go at Chase Me Charlie over the white barrels. The Chase Me Charlie was hottly contested and jointly won by Isabelle and Harry.
It was a super rally for all ages and everyone had a great time and when the sweets were handed out at the end, we all managed to forget how cold they were !!
