Clifton-on-Teme Pony Club Team Show Jumping held on 18th October, 2008 at Bromyard Equestrian Centre

MESSAGE FROM MARY TURNER

I would like to congratulate the girls who took part in the Clifton-on-Teme team show jumping competition last Saturday.

Well done to Louise Price, Beth Taylor and Katie Milner who came 3rd in the 2` - 2`3”  teams class, also to Lucy Harris who came 2nd individually and Emma Goodinson who came 4th individually in the 2`3” – 2`6” class.

Class 5  3` -3`3”  the team represented by Lauren Meredith, Meg Lloyd, Harriet Sale and Lucy Pincus came 2nd .  Meg Lloyd came 5th individually,  well done!

Then in class 6  3`3”-3`6”  this class caused a lot of trouble but our girls ended up 2nd as a team, with Harriet Sale winning the class.

Well done!! North Hereford did us proud last weekend, as a result of their successes we are in 2nd place for the trophy at the moment, so

come on let`s get some more teams together for the next Clifton-on-Teme team show jumping competition, which is on 17th January at BEC and try

to win the Trophy!!  Not forgetting our own team show jumping competition which is being held at BEC on Sunday 21st December. Please contact me if you are interested in being in a team on that day.  There are lots of you out there who were unable to make last weekend, so come on let`s get more teams entered for our own competition to try and win our trophy.  Don`t forget to book your place for show jumping training ( 2`6” plus )  next Friday 31st October at BEC with Graham Law, 1st group

Mary Turner

A huge thank you to Mary who made numerous phone calls and spent a lot of time putting together these teams and on Saturday she was there from the beginning until the end helping everyone, holding ponies, fetching numbers, making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time and supporting and cheering everyone on. I know all the members would like to thank Mary for all her hard work and support. As Mary says please come and join in all the fun, these teams really are for everyone. See you all at the 21st Dec BEC Showjumping

Intermediate

Team members were Laura Sale, Harriet Sale,

William May and Alastair Begley.

Well done to the team, all putting in clear cross country rounds, and to Harriet who was placed 8th individually.

There was very strong competition, and this year the cross country was  not influential enough to overcome the very high standard of dressage of the Heythrop pony club!

Open

Unfortunately we were not able to run a team in the open this year due to last minute problems, but the North Herefordshire were represented by two individuals - Megan Pountney and Katherine Begley.

Well done to Katherine Begley who was placed 4th individually, and qualified for the Championships at Draycott House in Derbyshire.

She was one of very few to complete without time penalties in the cross country.

Eventing Championships 2008 at Draycott House, Derbyshire

This was a new venue this year, and proved to be a great success. The Open couse was brand new and extremely well presented. It asked a number of difficult technical questions and had been cleverly designed to make the time difficult to achieve with lots of twists and turns.

The North Herefordshire was represented in the open by Katherine Begley with Bourne Belvedere.

Katherine was 3rd to go so didn't have the advantage of watching other competitors on the course to see how the technical fences were riding, but this didn't seem to matter as she stormed round the course without any problems, one of very few to do so within the time, putting her in 11th place after dressage and cross country.

The Show Jumping was on the 2nd day and proved to be very influential.

It was a big track with 15 jumping efforts, and the horses were tired from the previous day's efforts. Unfortunately for Katherine, she and Belvedere had a difference of opinion as to when to take off for the 2nd fence resulting in a fall for Katherine and a huge number of time penalties putting her out of contention for a place.

Overall though a great experience, and a huge achievement for Katherine with a new horse and  little experience at this level.

Well done Katherine!
