CHRISTMAS INDOOR SHOW-JUMPING WITH DENGIE QUALIFIER

The piercing winter wind did little to suppress the excitement of the New Forest Hunts’ annual Christmas Indoor Show Jumping competition held for a third time at Sparsholt College.  Ninety-five riders from seven different branches of the Pony Club competed in five classes ranging from young, novice riders in the leading rein section to the highly competitive and competent in the Dengie Qualifier.

The leading rein class, won by Dominic Payne on Gammy, tested both stamina and competence, especially in the timed section, where lesser fit parents succumbed to too much pre-Christmas Fayre!  As the height of fences increased so did the standard, and skill was required where tight turns combined with distance posed many questions.  New Forest Hunts’ competitors, Sophie Merritt on Northlands Primrose took first place in both the 2’3” Open and 2’6” Novice classes, and Flora Gibbs on Willoway Piper’s Delight won the 2'9” Novice section with Anya Jackson riding Joyful and Sophie Merritt on Tinks taking two and third places respectively.  Other rounds saw Hannah Bicket riding Killusty Prince take second in 2’9” Open and Rosanna Hewitt third in the 3’ Open.

New Forest Hunts Pony Club Open Hunter Trial,

 New Park, Brockenhurst.

Spectacular sunshine and perfect ground conditions contributed to the resounding success of the New Forest Hunts Pony Club Open Hunter Trials held at New Park, Brockenhurst.

More than 180 riders competed over the picturesque parkland negotiating 20 fences.  The course proved challenging to some competitors with the introduction of some new jumps including the giant silver Lee Horseshoe and the picture postcard wooden painted houses.

Eleven year old Flora Gibbs riding Willoway Piper's Delight fought off competition by winning the 2'3" class for the second time this season.  The 2'3" pairs class, won by sisters, Georgina and Jessica Crouch on Duke and Rock Hopper, was equally hotly contested with only two seconds dividing the top four places.  The Open 2'9" class was even closer as Justin Bloomfield riding The Smuggler snatched first place with just over a second between the top four.  The Lee brothers, Jordan and Ayden riding Boss and Ollie, valiantly fought off competition from rival members of the Wilton and Hursley by winning the 3'3" class and taking second and third in the 2'9" with fellow Pony Club member, Hannah Stevenson on Cummer Park Justice taking second place in the 3'3".  Gemma Wilkes riding Princess Fiona took first place in the 3'3" Open with the only clear round of the class.
