Your Pony Club Needs You!Do you have an area of expertise that might help your branch of the Pony Club? If there is even the vaguest chance, please read on.......
The branch is run exclusively by volunteers who give up their time to organise and run all the activities which the children enjoy so much. Over the last few years the membership has increased substantially which is brilliant! Many of you already volunteer and help at our events which is much appreciated as we couldn’t do it without you, but we really do need more help to keep up the current level of activities.
Would you be willing to help? If you have any particular area of expertise (or none!) eg: equine, medical, legal, computer, financial, secretarial, carpentry, painting and decorating (jumps, not the DC’s kitchen!), envelope stuffing, telephoning, fetching and carrying, catering – the list is endless - PLEASE LET US HEAR FROM YOU. An enquiry will not commit you to anything so please do ring or speak to one of the committee members.
Horse PassportsThere seems to be some confusion about the law and when it is necessary to carry passports. The following is offered as a guide only but it is your responsibility to ensure you comply with the current legislation.
It is understood that it is necessary to have a valid passport with you when transporting horses or ponies:
DEFRA have apparently advised it is not necessary to carry passports when a horse is being transported for:
SpursRemember you will need the DC's signature on your membership card before being permitted to wear spurs at any branch Pony Club events.
Hats & Hat taggingIt is mandatory for all members to wear a protective helmet manufactured to a minimum standard: it must bear the CE mark and a quality symbol, either the BSI Kitemark, the SAI Global symbol or the official Snell label with number. The CE symbol on its own is not sufficient to ensure consistent standard of manufacture. The PAS015 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection. Other Pony Club permitted hats are EN1384: 1996, or BSEN 1384: 1997 with a BSI Kitemark, the Snell E2001 with official Snell label and number, or the SAI Global AS/NZS 3838 1998 or AS/NZS 3838 2003. It is strongly recommended that hats are fitted by trained hat fitters and that secondhand hats are not purchased. Children under 9 years old: medical advice is that children’s neck muscles do not develop adequately to support a fairly heavy hat, therefore it may be appropriate for children under 9 to wear a lightweight hat made to comply with the above. The so-called ‘show jumpers hat‘ with a metallic strip down the front is the hat that causes the most problems (especially Harry Hall), so please double check the label if you are purchasing one.
If your hat isn't tagged please ensure you contact Emma Hill or Nikki Bakewell and make arrangements for tagging without delay.
It is also now mandatory that all Pony Club members competing Cross Country over jumps at 80cm or above must wear a jockey skull cap with a flexible peak. Fixed peak hats are NOT allowed to be worn.
