Hursley Branch
Achievement Badges

lungeing.jpgHursley branch of the Pony Club enjoy arranging achievement badges in either equine or non-equine subjects for it's members during most school holidays.  There are nearly 30 badges to collect and once you have 21 badges or more you will be awarded your GOLD achievement badge so come along and start collecting!

FEEDING ACHIEVEMENT BADGE

Never mind Halloween horrors, 29th October saw the grisly arrival at New Lodge of THE GUT – all thirty metres of it!  Under the expert tuition of Deborah Leabeater and with the help of The Gut, we learnt all about our pony’s digestive system (did you know his stomach is only the size of a rugy ball?) and the important rules of feeding including ‘little and often’. We also saw how sugar beet expands and the importance of not muddling it with pony cubes. Then with the help of lots of different feed samples we learnt how to choose the right food for our pony depending on his temperament, condition and workload.  Finally Deborah asked everyone to talk about one feed sample and how it might affect their pony and we could see that everyone had learnt lots. So a very big thank you to Deborah and a very well done to the following members who were then presented with their feeding achievement badges:

Amy Challis, Lottie Harper, Jamie May, Alice Whittick, Charlotte Long, Lucy Budden, Jenny Budden, George Budden, Red Middleton, Holly Piggin, Rachel Christopher, Joshua Le Riche, Bryony Stanton and Olivia McCarthy.

SADDLERY AND TACK CLEANING BADGES

These two badges will be run together and will help you to identify the parts of a snaffle bridle and learn to put it on, to identify several common bits and to learn the parts of the saddle. We shall then find out about the importance of keeping tack clean, and the equipment needed to clean tack and how to use it. The session will last approximately 2 hours with a mince pie interval!
