2008 RESULTS
ERIDGE - Golden Cross, 25th & 26th October
ERIDGE – Golden Cross, 25th & 26th October
Eridge were represented by 2 Mini teams in the first team competition of the weekend – Hannah Jenner, Charlotte Simmons, Jade Grant-Renwick & Matthew Porter, and Phoebe Toyne-Bridges, Abbie La Rooy & Anna Hollis. Unfortunately, it was not to be Eridge’s day! Everyone tried their hardest but luck was not on our side and the teams were sadly unplaced.
In the Small Novice Individual class, Georgie Sykes was 2nd and Jordan Groom 6th – well done to them! We had 2 Small Novice teams competing: the Crackers - Jordan Groom, Phoebe Wylam, Cosi Tibbles & Georgie Sykes, and the Rockets - Tom Parminter, Katie-Ann Hickling, Ellie Horne & Elise La Rooy. Again, Eridge were very unlucky with just a few dislodged poles being enough to keep both teams out of the placings.
The second day of the competition was a very wet day. We started with the Dengie, followed by the Novice teams. Congratulations to Kath Port and Emma Howard who were 6th & 7th respectively in the Dengie qualifier.
We had a good turnout from our branch with three Novice teams: the Reds - Lotte Carter, Marianne Blaxland, Alex Young and Kathleen Port, the Blues - Sally McGuckin, Jess Turner, Francesca Newman and Jess Carling, and finally the Greens -Toni Bohane, Harriet McLusky, Harriet Sutton and Sophie Windsor-Burrell. The Reds did really well by finishing 3rd and the Blues came 7th. Well done everyone!
The next team event was the Opens. We had one team - Rachel McGuckin, Lauren McLusky, Iona McCaul and Alycia Port. There were only 5 teams and we were the first to go and collected 8 faults so thought we were out of the top placement. Much to our surprise all the teams has problems and Eridge WON after Iona doing a fanastic jump off for the team. A brilliant end to the day. Iona also won the Open Individual class and Rachel was 6th.
Thankyou to everyone that helped the two days to run so smoothly.

SOUTHDOWN WEST - Hickstead, 9th August
SOUTHDOWN WEST - Hickstead, 9th August
Congratulations to the Mini team comprising Jordan Groom, Phoebe Wylam, Rosie Filmer & Katie-Ann Hickling who came 2nd out of 36 teams! 9 teams finished on double clear, including Eridge, and we were 6th to jump off. Jordan jumped off for the team and produced a fantastic round, less than a second behind the winning time!! Well done to all of them for such a fabulous result.
The Novice team of Alex Young, Will Johnson, Kath Port & Marianne Blaxland were also on top form, coming 4th out of a total of 38 teams! Our team finished on 8 faults after two rounds. There was only one team on 0 and two on 4. The early teams benefitted from the better ground and, in the second round, the afternoon rain made the going increasingly sticky and chopped up.
In the second Novice team were Seb Spencer, Cosi Tibbles, Sally McGuckin, and Jess Carling who stepped in at the very last minute. They weren't placed but did a lot better than many other teams.
We also had two Open Teams. In one team was Emily Erde, Lauren McLusky, Rachel McGuckin & Harriet Colderick and in the other team was Lily Pearl, Ellie McLaren, Ross Rist & Katherine Sands. The were 26 Open teams and, even though we didn't get placed, we still did well with our first team coming 12th.
NATIONAL SCHOOLS & PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - Hickstead, 6th August
NATIONAL SCHOOLS & PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - Hickstead, 6th August
19 teams had qualified for the Championships. On the Eridge team we had Alice and Iona McCaul, Lily Pearl and Fiona Hamilton. Unfortunately we didn't get through to jump in the main arena but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
AREA - 26th July
AREA - 26th July
The Area SJ took place at Hole Farm, Rolvenden on yet another very hot day. We had a Novice team who were Alex Young, Jess Turner, Marianne Blaxland & Katherine Sands, and an Intermediate team - Emma Howard, Harriet Colderick, Ellie McLaren and Lily Pearl. The Intermediates came 6th in the Tack and Turnout but unfortunately did not manage to qualify for the Championships. In the Novice both Alex and Jess got through to the jump off but again did not manage to get placed.
Well done to the West Kent Meopham Intermediates for qualifying and to the Southdown East Novices.
MID SURREY - Walton on the Hill, 29th June
MID SURREY - Walton on the Hill, 29th June
This year, Mid Surrey hosted the Bullock Cup, Eclipse Shield and Hickstead Qualifier. Congratulations to the Eridge Blue team of Lotte Carter, Will Johnson, Charlotte Newman & Emma Howard who came 3rd in the Bullock Cup, out of a total of 25 teams! Congratulations also to Kathleen Port who was 6th in the individual class.
There were 18 Mini teams in the competition for the Eclipse Shield. Unfortunately, the Eridge team of Jordan Groom, Cosi Tibbles, Ellie Horne & Phoebe Wylam finished on an unlucky 4 faults, just missing out on the jump off. Well done to Ellie and Jordan who came 8th & 9th respectively in the Mini Individual class.
Finally, congratulations to the Open team of Alice & Iona McCaul, Ellie McClaren and Lily Pearl who came 3rd, qualifying for the National Pony Club Championships to be held at Hickstead on 6th August. Good luck to them!
Thanks to Sharon Newman for the photos
SOUTHDOWN EAST - Wivelsden Farm, 14th June
SOUTHDOWN EAST - Wivelsden Farm, 14th June
Eridge were well represented at the SDE competition this year with one Novice team, two Mini teams and two Mini Mini teams entered.
Congratulations to Cosi Tibbles who came 2nd in the Novice individual. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on the side of the Novice team - Cosi, Tom Parminter, Jess Turner & Yas Chapman, who just had a couple of poles down taking them out of the reckoning.
The Red Mini team - Jordan Groom, Katie-Ann Hickling, Laura Goodhew & Phoebe Wylam all went clear in the first round of the team competition. Jordan jumped off for the team and produced a very fast clear putting the team into 2nd place. The Blue team - Hannah Jenner, Melissa Marsh, Ellie Horne & Anna Hollis finished the first round on 8 faults putting them into 8th place.
The Mini Minis were represented by the Wizards - Rosie Filmer, Millie Bresnahan, Immy Long & Jade Grant-Rennick, and the Crackers - Esther Akehurst, Bella Harris, Jessica Sparkes & Velvet Turner. The course was quite testing with lots of bright, scary fillers and caused quite a few problems in the individual warm-up class, although not for Velvet and Timber who were placed 5th - well done to them! Fortunately, everyone was in better form for the team competition. The Wizards finished the first round on zero, and the Crackers on a very unlucky 4 faults. Velvet was chosen to jump off for the Crackers and did very well to secure 5th place for her team. All of the Wizards had to jump off and they all produced fabulous fast clear rounds to WIN the competition! The winning margin was less than a second so it was extremely exciting! So well done to everyone - a good day for Eridge.
WEST KENT SEVENOAKS - The Hop Farm, 4th May
WEST KENT SEVENOAKS - The Hop Farm, 4th May
Eridge were represented at the Hop Farm by a mixed Mini/Novice team, with Laura Goodhew, Tom Parminter, Marianne Blaxland and Fiona Blaxland. It was a very long day, with each team member jumping 2 rounds and then a jump-off for placings. Eridge finished both rounds on an unlucky 4 faults, finishing 9th out of a total of 17 teams. A special mention for Tom, representing Eridge on a showjumping team for the first time - he did it in fine style, jumping 2 lovely clear rounds.
OPEN DENGIE CHAMPIONSHIPS
CONGRATULATIONS to Lily Pearl and Emily Erde who both qualified for the OPEN DENGIE SHOW JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS at Moreton Morrell on 29th March. Emily wasn't able to go to the Championships but Lily did make the long journey up to Warwickshire. She did extremely well but unfortunately didn't make it through to the jump off, finishing the first round on 8 faults. The course was so testing that there were only two clear rounds in the whole competition, so to finish on only 8 was quite an achievement! Well done Lily and Miss Moneypenny.
ERIDGE - Golden Cross, 9th March
CRAWLEY & HORSHAM - Sands Farm, 19th & 20th February
CRAWLEY & HORSHAM - 19th & 20th February
Another win for the Eridge Show Jumpers! This time it was the Intermediates - Emily Erde, Harriet Long, Harriet Colderick and Rachel McGuckin. They had six teams in the jump off with everyone jumping and we were the first to go, so the pressure was on but we managed to hold our own and keep in the lead which was fantastic. Well done to the team.
We had 2 Mini teams jumping in the morning, the Rockets - Jordan Groom, Phoebe Wylam, Cosi Tibbles & Josh Hill, and the Crackers - Elise La Rooy, Katie-Ann Hickling, Ashlin Rolph & Laura Goodhew. Josh did brilliantly to come 3rd in the Individual Scurry, out of 75 competitors! The Crackers were unlucky not to get through to the jump off. The Rockets all jumped clear in the first round but unfortunately were unplaced in the jump off. Thanks to everyone for competing and a special mention to Laura Goodhew who stepped in at the last minute and jumped a lovely clear for her team.
The following day was the turn of the Novices and they had an early start (some much earlier than others). There were 69 in the individual and 19 teams so there was a lot of competition. Unfortunately we ended up on four faults that day and didn't get through to the jump off but everyone enjoyed themselves and had a nice morning. Thankyou to Alex Young, Sally McGuckin, Jess Carling and Lotte Carter for taking part.
EAST SUSSEX - Golden Cross, 9th February
EAST SUSSEX - 9th February
Eridge Minis win again! We had two teams entered in the competition held by East Sussex PC at Golden Cross. In the Red team were Amelie David, Ellie Duggan, Jordan Groom & Georgie Sykes and in the Blue team we had Katie-Ann Hickling, Elise La Rooy, Cosima Tibbles & Phoebe Wylam. All of the Red team went clear in the first round and all jumped off where they all went clear again and were the only team to finish on zero thus winning the competition. Well done! The Blue team did not have luck on their side but all jumped very well finishing in 6th place. Congratulations to Katie-Ann who came 7th in the individual scurry.
We had two teams entered in the Novice competition. There was a scurry as a warm up and Charlotte Hutchinson on Bobby came 8th! Well done. There were 11 novice teams and we were 2nd and 5th to jump. After the first round we were on 4 faults and 8 faults and by the end of the first round no one had gone clear and only two had finished on 4 faults. The whole of our first team had to jump off and we won!! The winning team were Lotte Carter, Alex Young, Charlotte Newman and Harriet McLusky. Our second team were Will Johnson, Charlotte Hutchinson, Jess Carling and Yas Chapman and they came 6th. Well done to all of you and lets see if this is the start of things to come.
ARDINGLY - 2nd & 3rd January
ARDINGLY - 2nd & 3rd January
Eridge got off to a fantastic start this year at the Interbranch Showjumping at Ardingly. On the first day they swept the board, winning both the Open and the Mini team competitions. On the second day, luck wasn't on the side of the Novices but the Mini Minis did brilliantly to come 3rd.
We had two teams for the Open: the Eridge Flyers - Harriet Long, Harriet Colderick, Lauren McLusky and Emily Turner, and the Eridge Dancers - Henry Armstrong, Alycia Port, Nat Groom and Katherine Sands. All did nice rounds for the Scurry though no one got placed. There were 12 teams to jump and the Eridge Flyers were the only team to jump clear so won without even having to jump off. Well done! Unfortunately the Eridge Dancers did not do so well finishing on penalties but still did well considering several teams got eliminated.
We also had two teams for the Mini competition: the Blue team - Josh Hill, Ollie Halcrow, Serena Venables & Robert Lloyd, and the Red team - Jordan Groom, Georgie Sykes, Ellie Duggan & CC Rowson. Eridge showed their form in the scurry with Josh winning, CC coming 3rd and Ellie 4th! Every single team member then jumped clear in the first round of the team competition putting both teams through to the jump off. As only 5 teams out of the 14 made it through, everyone had to jump against the clock. The Eridge Blue team came out the winners, and hot on their heels were the Eridge Red team in 2nd place, the margin between the 2 teams being less than a second! A fantastic result for the Minis and very well deserved!
The next day was the turn of the Mini Mini and Novice teams. We had 2 Mini Mini teams: the Eridge Rockets - Phoebe Wylam, Esther Akehurst, Hannah Jenner & Melissa Marsh, and the Eridge Crackers - Velvet Turner, Georgie Kirk, Fraser Simmonds & Millie Bresnahan. Everyone tried their hardest in the team competition - Velvet and Fraser jumped lovely clear rounds for the Crackers but unfortunately Georgie's and Millie's ponies weren't as obliging as they might have been! The Rockets did very well, getting through to the jump off where Phoebe jumped a cracking round putting them into 3rd place, out of a total of 13 teams. A great result! Congratulations also to Velvet who came 9th in the Individual scurry.
We managed to send three Novice teams: the Red team - Charlotte Newman, Alex Young, Harriet McLusky & Lotte Carter; the Blue team - Jess Turner, Marianne Blaxland, Yas Chapman & Kathleen Port; and the Green team - Seb Spencer, Jess Carling, Will Johnson & Alicia Earee. In the scurry, several members did some lovely clear rounds and Kathleen Port was placed 9th out of 94 riders. Well done! There were 22 teams to jump in the Novice and our Blue team got through to the jump off but unfortunately did not get placed.
Both days were run very efficiently and smoothly and, considering the number of entries, we finished both days in reasonable time. Special thanks to Angie Whittington who did a fantastic job as team trainer for the Mini & Mini Mini teams.
