SOUTHDOWN WEST - 14th August
We had three teams jumping at the Southdown West competition at Hickstead: the Minis - Katya Visser, Velvet Turner, Bella Harris and Sophie Sparkes, the Novices - Beth Stephens, Jessica Sparkes, Phoebe Toyne-Bridges and Maddy Ward, and the Intermediates - Hannah Stevens, Hannah Jenner, Immy Long and Liberty Marden.
The day started really well and all Eridge teams finished the first round on zero. Then just as the second round commenced the heavens opened and it poured. The show jumping carried on and even though the rain stopped, the rings were like ice rinks and horses were sliding all over the place and pony club members falling off. Finally after more rain and more mud each class finished. The Minis finished 9th out of 30 in their arena which was brilliant.
The Novices unfortunately finished on a score of 8 and didn't get placed - this was also a large class of 30. The Intermediates got through to the jump off and Liberty was selected to jump for the team and unfortunately dropped a pole so they also didn't get placed. Again they did really well in a class of 32 teams. Despite the weather, all the Eridge members enjoyed the day and the experience of jumping at Hickstead and those who did the clear round jumping came home with fantastic Hickstead rosettes.
AREA - 1st August
The first of the Area competitions kicked off with the show jumping in Tonbridge which is nice and local to us. Our Open team won which was fantastic and will be setting off to Draycott Park in a few weeks time. The team were Emily Erde, Alycia Port, Alicia Earee (who kindly stepped in at the last moment) and Matt Porter. Emily also came 2nd as a individual. They also were placed third in the tack and turnout.
BULLOCK & ECLIPSE CUPS - 4th June
This year the Bullock and Eclipse Cup Team competition was hosted by West Street PC at Cobham Manor EC. We had one team entered for each Cup competition.
In the Mini team competing for the Eclipse we had Katya Visser, Mattie Hayes, Sarah Hickling and Hannah Jenner. The day started with a Tack & Turnout competition in which the team was placed 5th. In the first round of the Cup everyone did brilliantly to go clear which not many teams managed. In the second round the team finished on 4 faults. One team won outright on a double clear, leaving seven teams to jump off for the places. Katya was chosen to do the jump off but, at the end of a brilliant round, she knocked the last fence pole off with her foot! Needless to say, she was very cross with herself!
In the Bullock team, we had Toni Bohane, Caroline Aspinall, Katie Hickling and Cornelia Bentsen. The day didn't start too well for the poor Bohanes (who also had the Aspinalls on board) when their lorry broke down about 1 mile away from the showground. The brakes had seized on, so they had lots of smoke coming from underneath the lorry. The girls unloaded the horses and bravely hacked to the showground using the horse bridge over the M20. Eventually, the truck was repaired and everyone arrived just in time for course walking and Tack and Turnout. The whole team looked very smart, especially considering that two of them had to hack to the show ground, and were rewarded by getting placed 4th out of 21 teams!! The standard was extremely high.
In the scurry there were 3 clears from Toni, Katie and Cornelia. Katie chased the time, and would have had a cracking time had poor Jasper not taken a stride out to the last, and took the pole with him! They all had lovely clear rounds in the first round of the team competition in very hot and dusty conditions, with only 5 other teams also going clear. The jumps were raised for the second round and the majority of the horses were stopping or getting poles - not one team managed a double clear. Our team finished on 16 faults which was just outside the placings.
It was a very long day and, considering the drama in the morning, the team spirit was great - lots of supporting one another and cheering on, and a good day was had by all (apart from Bruno perhaps!).
SOUTHDOWN EAST - 6th June
We had one novice team competing at Wivelsfield Green - Cosi Tibbles, Charlotte Simmons, Katy Aspinall and Maddy Ward. They had a brillant day with Cosi winning the scurry and Charlotte coming 6th. Then out of the teams they came 4th which was really good because the Southdown had invited riding clubs to join in due to lack of entries so out of the pony clubs they would have been 2nd. Well done everyone.
ROYAL WINDSOR HORSE SHOW - 16th May
Eridge were represented by Harriet Colderick riding Blue Echo and Emily Erde riding Queen Emery in the Pony Club Show Jumping competition at The Royal Windsor Horse Show on Sunday 16th May. The competition is open to representatives of all Branches in the UK. They both did extremely well with Emily coming 5th and Harriet 8th.
ERIDGE - 7th March
CRAWLEY & HORSHAM - 17th February
We had one Novice team trek over to Sands Farm on the 17th Feb. Immie Long and Phoebe Wylam went clear in the scurry but just not fast enough. Then in the teams we were the first to go and set the pace by going clear. Then was the wait, but for once in lovely fairly warm sunshine, for the rest of the teams. After the first round 11 teams had gone clear. The organisers decided that all team members should jump off and we finished with 4 faults. Unfortunately we did not get into the placing but all had a wonderful day. The team were Immie Long, Harriet Sutton, Charlotte Simmons and Phoebe Wylam. Phoebe did particulary well as she hasn't show jumped for quite a while and had kindly stepped in at the last moment.
EAST SUSSEX - 7th February
Eridge had one Mini team competing at the East Sussex competition at Golden Cross: Charlotte Sykes, Sarah Hickling, Hugo Toyne-Bridges and Jessica Sparkes. They were unlucky to drop a couple of poles in the first round, finishing on 8 faults. They all had to jump off for the placings and all tried really hard, but three riders unfortunately had first pole-itis! The height of the fences in the jump off were certainly causing quite a few problems, with quite a few stops and poles flying! Well done to the team for ending up in 4th place and congratulations to Sarah for 2 lovely clear rounds in her first ever Mini team competition.
We had two novice teams competing: the Flyers - Harriet McLusky, Charlotte Simmons, Immie Long and Georgie Sykes and the Dancers - Phoebe Toyne-Bridges, Cornelia Bentsen, Hannah Jenner and Katie Aspinall. Cornelia did really well and came 5th in the scurry and both our teams were the only ones to go clear in the first round so had to jump off against each other. The Flyers finished 1st with the Dancers following with a close 2nd. Everyone had a brilliant time and for once stayed dry.
Finally Charotte Hutchinson won the Dengie which was a fantastic finish to the day.
WEST KENT MEOPHAM - 24th January
We had one Novice team taking part at Eaglesfield in the West Kent Meopham interbranch show jumping: Hannah Jenner, Phoebe Toyne-Bridges, Cornelia Bentsen and Vicky May-Winter. They all had a really good day with Cornelia coming 3rd and Hannah 4th in the scurry. Then with the teams they got through to the jump off with Phoebe being the nominated rider and finished in 5th place.
ARDINGLY - 2nd & 3rd January
The first day was the turn of the Mini Mini and Novice teams. We had one Mini Mini team: Zoe Rumens, Issy Porter, William Todd-Dunning and Sophie Sparkes. They did brilliantly to finish the first round on zero putting them through to the jump off where they all rode lovely rounds ending up in 5th place - well done!
We had two Novice teams competing: the Dancers - Lottie Carter, Liberty Marden, Cosi Tibbles and Millie Bresnahan, and the Flyers - Charlotte Simmons, Immie Long, Sophie Rist and Harriet McLusky. First was the scurry and Liberty did really well and came 3rd. For the teams there were 19 in total and out of that only 8 went clear including both Eridge teams who all jumped clear. In the jump off we had to select one member from each team so Liberty went for the Dancers and Harriet for the Flyers. Unfortunately a pole was dropped but we did extremely well and finished 4th for Dancers and 6th for the Flyers. Well done!
On the Sunday, we had one team in the Mini competition: Katya Visser, Hannah Jenner, Cornelia Bentsen and Bella Nichols, who were up against 16 other teams. 3 clear rounds put them through to the jump off where Katya jumped a fantastic round, only seconds behind the winning time, putting the team into 5th place.

EAST SUSSEX - 22nd NovemberWe had one Mini team competing - Immie Long, Charlotte and Katya Visser, and Hugo Toyne-Bridges. They finished the first round on 4 faults and then all had to jump off for placings. They all jumped lovely rounds to finish in 4th place.
We also had two Novice teams, the Flyers - Harriet Mclusky, Millie Bresnahan, Katie Hickling & Sophie Windsor-Burrell, and the Dancers - Ellie Duggan, Georgie Sykes, Sophie Rist and Phoebe Toyne-Bridges. The Dancers finished the first round on 8 faults which put them into 8th place. The Flyers jumped off for placings after finishing the first round on 4 faults and ended up in 7th place.
Congratulations to Georgie who came 5th in the Novice warm-up class, and to Millie who won the Dengie Qualifier and to Sophie Windsor-Burrell who managed to qualify two ponies! Very well done to them.
Thanks to East Sussex for organising a good day, despite the awful weather!
ERIDGE - 24th & 25th October
SOUTHDOWN WEST - 8th August
This year there were an amazing amount of entries for the Southdown West interbranch competition held at Hickstead - 36 Mini teams, 36 Novice teams and 34 Open teams. We thought that we would be jumping in the dark! For the novice we had the Eridge Flyers - Harriet McLusky, Cosi Tibbles, Charlotte Newman & Sophie Windsor-Burrell, and the Eridge Dancers - Beth Stephens, Jess Carling, Liberty Marden & Marianne Blaxland. Charlotte and Liberty both did nice double clears. The winning team finished on 4 faults and our Eridge Flyers finished on 8 faults. The placings were decided on time penalties and they ended up in 6th place. For the Opens we had the Blue team - Emma Howard, Emily Erde, Lauren McLusky & Lily Pearl, and the Purple team - Alicia Earee, Emily Erde, Alycia Port & Matthew Porter. Emily on Queen Emery, Lauren, Alicia Earee and Matt all did lovely double clears and the Blue team finished on equal 2nd but, after taking into account time penalties, they were placed 4th.
One of our Mini teams was unfortunately balloted out of the competition, so Eridge Minis were represented by just one team comprising Immie Long, Millie Bresnahan, Abbie La Rooy and Charlotte Simmons. They did brilliantly finishing on zero after the first two rounds. This put them through to the jump off, along with 12 other teams, and they ended up in 6th place overall.
Well done everyone for surviving such a long day and for doing so well - a good set of results for Eridge!
AREA - 1st August
The Area Qualifier was held at Hole Park, Rolvenden. Eridge didn't manage to qualify for the Championships this year, but everyone jumped very well and all teams were placed.
The Open team of Matt Porter, Lauren McLusky and Lily Pearl came 5th. Lily got through to the jump off as an individual but unfortunately dropped a pole otherwise would have come 2nd. The Intermediate team - Charlotte Hutchinson, Emma Howard, Kath Port and Alycia Port came 7th. The Novice team - Alex Young, Cosi Tibbles, Harriet McLusky and Marianne Blaxland got through to the jump off but they all dropped a pole so came 6th out of 19 teams.
SOUTHDOWN EAST - 14th June
The Eridge Novices had a great day at Southdown East Pony Club Team Show Jumping with three teams competing: Red - Lotte Carter, Cosima Tibbles, Harriet McLusky, Matthew Porter, Blue - Liberty Marden, Charlotte Simmons, Elise La Rooy, and Purple - Georgie Sykes, Beth Stephens, Charlotte Newman and Chloe Hagger. We started with a scurry and Matthew came 4th and Cosi 5th. Then came the teams. Eridge Red and Crawley and Horsham were the only teams to go through on 0. Five teams had 8 faults so had to nominate one person to jump off. Charlotte Newman had the honour for the Purples. The final result was Eridge Red winning with all team members going clear taking the prize from last years winners. Our Purple team came 5th and unfortunately the Blues did not get placed. Everyone had a really good time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We had one Small Novice team competing - Ellie Horne, Jordan Groom, Bella Nichols and Maddy Ward. Luck was not on their side and they weren't placed this time. Well done to Ellie for being placed 3rd in the individual class.
We also had a Mini Mini team competing - Charlotte Beldham, Issy Porter, Ella D'Alton & Michaela Holding, all of whom were experiencing their first team show jumping competition. They were one of the youngest teams competing and did Eridge proud by all jumping clear in the first round. Charlotte was chosen to do the jump off for the team and was unlucky not to go clear so unfortunately they weren't placed, but very well done anyway!
ERIDGE - 8th March
We had 2 Mini Mini teams competing, the Monkeys - Jade Grant-Renwick, Mattie Hayes, Hattie Bunday & William Todd-Dunning, and the Chipmunks - Sarah Hickling, Elizabeth Weighell, Velvet Turner & Charlotte Sykes. Unfortunately, things didn't quite go according to plan for the Monkeys, but the Chipmunks did well to finish in 7th place.
There were also 2 Mini teams, the Swallows - Hannah Jenner, Millie Bresnahan, Abbie La Rooy & Immy Long, and the Amazons - Bella Nichols, Bella Harris, Jordan Groom & Cornelia Bentsen. The Swallows were very unlucky with just a few poles preventing them from getting through to the jump off. The Amazons did get through however and did very well to finish in 4th place. Congratulations to Abbie La Rooy who was 2nd in the Mini individual class.
We were able to put out 3 Small Novice teams, the Lions - Cosi Tibbles, Ellie Horne, Phoebe Wylam & Ellie Duggan, the Tigers - Charlotte Simmons, Katie-Ann Hickling, Matthew Porter & Ollie Halcrow, and the Pumas - Anna Hollis, Katie & Annabelle Wallbridge, & Marianne Blaxland. The Pumas were unlucky just to roll a few poles, the Lions finished on 4 faults ending up in 7th place, and the Tigers made it through to the jump off where Matthew jumped a cracking round to put them into 2nd place. Congratulations to Cosi who came 2nd in the individual class, and to Marianne who came 6th.
Well done to everyone who competed and a big thankyou to everyone who helped out on the day.
NORTH WEST KENT - 22nd February
We sent two teams to the NW Kent Interbranch Show Jumping which was held at Eaglesfield Equestrian Centre. The competition took place in the newly surfaced huge indoor arena. It was very well organised and the course was full up but fair.
The Mini Mini team comprised Sarah Hickling on Bee, Zoe Rumens on Princess, William Todd-Dunning riding Roly Poly and Mattie Hayes on Herbie. We had a mixed bag of success in both the scurry and team competition. Sarah jumped two lovely clear rounds, unfortunately just out of the placings in the scurry. Well done to Mattie who jumped a super clear round in his first ever team competition. We finished in a very creditable 4th place - well done to you all.
EAST SUSSEX - 1st February
We had three Mini teams competing on yet another freezing cold day at Golden Cross, the Wizards - Charlotte Simmons, Phoebe Wylam, Ellie Duggan & Anna Hollis, the Rockets - Hannah Jenner, Abbie La Rooy, Cosi Tibbles & Matthew Porter, and the Crackers - Immy Long, Millie Bresnahan, Esther Akehurst & Bella Nichols. The Wizards and the Crackers were very unlucky not to make it through to the jump off but the Rockets all went clear to go through with 7 other teams. Cosi was selected to do the jump off on her new pony Dotty and did a very speedy clear to put the team into 3rd place. Well done the Rockets!
Congratulations to Ellie Duggan who came 8th in the Novice Individual class. The Novice teams were much diminished due to the adverse weather which set in during the afternoon but very well done to Charlotte Hutchinson and Elise La Rooy who braved the elements and ended up joining teams of other branches. They did Eridge proud, both jumping lovely clear rounds for their teams.
ARDINGLY - 2nd & 3rd January
The first day was the turn of the Mini Mini and Novice teams. We had one Mini Mini team who were unfortunately down to three: Sarah Hickling, Millie Bresnahan & Bella Harris. Everyone tried their hardest in the team competition and they finished in 7th place - well done!
We managed to send three Novice teams: the Hawks - Alex Young, Harriet McLusky, Marianne Blaxland & Lotte Carter; the Owls - Amy Allen, Flossie May-Winter, Harriet Sutton & Ollie Halcrow, and the Falcons - Alicia Earee, Amelie David, Vicky May-Winter & Toni Bohane. In the scurry, both Lotte and Amelie did really well to get placed. There were 19 teams to jump in the Novice and the course proved quite difficult with very few clear rounds. All the Eridge teams were very unlucky with just a few dislodged poles preventing them from getting into the jump off. The Hawks did the best of the Eridge teams, finishing on 4 faults. The times from the first round were used to determine the placings and they came 6th.
We had two teams for the Mini competition: the Red team - Ellie Duggan, Phoebe Wylam, Abbie La Rooy & Charlotte Simmons, and the Blue team - Hannah Jenner, Bella Nichols, Robert Lloyd & Matthew Porter. Well done to Charlotte who was placed in the scurry. Everyone in the Red team jumped clear in the first round of the team competition putting them into the jump off. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well for the Blue team who didn't make it through. After a very exciting jump off and some cracking rounds by the Eridge girls, they ended up in 3rd place - very well done!
We had one team for the Open: Harriet Colderick, Lauren McLusky, Josie Duggan and Lily Pearl. Well done to Harriet Colderick who came 7th in the scurry. There were 11 teams to jump and only 2 teams got through to the jump off, one of them being Eridge. They all jumped brilliant clear rounds which put them into 1st place - a fantastic end to two days of fierce competition!!

Harriet Colderick wins at Royal Windsor
We nominated five members to represent the Branch at The Royal Windsor Horse Show on Sunday 17th May in the Pony Club Show Jumping competition. The nominations were restricted and ultimately Harriet Colderick and Lily Pearl were chosen to jump for Eridge. The competition was held on the surface of the new Frogmore Ring. The first round was 1.10m and was open to representatives of all Branches in the UK. Lily and her horse Penny did extremely well and just rolled a pole in the first round which was unfortunate but Harriet and Echo I am delighted to say won the class with only three clears in the jump off. This is a fantastic result for Harriet and Echo, and for the Branch, so a big well done to you H. on behalf of us all!
