We had an early morning start when all you ‘normal people’ would still have been fast asleep, and boarded the coach for one and a half hours up to London. Once we arrived at Wormwood Scrubs Acton car park we waited for the King’s Troop to arrive. Soon they began their gun display practice which they will be performing at Olympia. There were six horses attached to each of the World War I guns and there were six guns so there we a fair amount of horses galloping around.
We then got back on the coach for 10 minutes to visit the St Johns Barracks where there are 130 stables with 120 horses. They have their own farrier based there and an indoor and outdoor riding school. They are building a canter loop at the moment. Each soldier has two or three horses to tend to after the practice. Each horse has a special diet with their own diet card on the wall by their stable. The King's Troop have their own type of food.
I think all of us enjoyed the trip - it was very intellectual and great fun; better than school! On behalf on the Pony Club I would like to thank Mrs. Tindall and the King’s Troop for a sneak preview of what they do and what we are going to be seeing at Olympia.
