Winter League Show Jumping

Winter League is a series of competitions set up whereby each branch within our area holds a show jumping competition at some point during the winter, the aim being for members to improve through regular practice at the discipline. Although it is primarily a team competition, if there are insufficient numbers to make up teams individuals can still compete. Unfortunately on some occasions the entries are limited to teams due to too many entries, so priority will be given to members showing commitment.

Throughout the winter branches gain points for being placed as a team at each competition, ending in a presentation for final placing where rosettes and prizes are awarded.

At each competition there are the following classes:

     Class 1     Juniors 10yrs and under           2’3’’
     Class 2     Novice 13yrs and under           2’6’’
     Class 3     Intermediate                          2’9’’
     Class 4     Open                                    3’3’’

A team consists of four members, with the best three scores in each round to count. Rosettes and prizes given from 1st – 6th for teams and individuals in each class.

I organise entries and teams for each competition, therefore if you would like to compete I require your entry and a cheque made payable to E.C.B.P.C, at least two weeks prior to the competition as I have to organise teams and send the branches entries to the host Pony Club. No entries will be made without payment in advance. On your entry please indicate whether you would want to jump as an individual if there were insufficient entries to make a team. The fee this year for most of the competitions is £10.00.

Please note that if you miss the 2 week deadline, you may send an individual entry direct to the organising branch, but you may not be part of an East Cheshire team.

Area Show Jumping and Championships Report 2008

Although very wet the area show jumping went very well for East Cheshire. We had lots of our members entered in the Novice Championship Qualifier. After an exciting three rounds Leona Lock-Williams finally qualified for the championships, where she went on to jump clear in the first round but then had an unfortunate four faults in the second.

Our intermediate team of Ashley Daniel, Sam Foxall, Susie Wise and Vicky Willis had a fantastic day. They were tying with one other team after the first two rounds so were required to jump off against the clock. After rushing back to get their horses ready they were drawn first to jump and maintained a clean sheet which resulted in them winning the competition and qualifying for the Pony Club National Championships. And to top this Vicky won the competition as an individual and Ashley came second therefore they both also qualified for the Individual Championship.

Congratulations to Ashley who did fantastically well at the Championships, coming third in the Intermediate Individual Championship. Very Well Done!!!
