Area Show Jumping - 11 July 2010

This year the Area Show Jumping was held at Dyfnog Stud, in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Nineteen East Cheshire members made their way there, with the majority of them making up teams in the Newcomers and Novice classes. We had three teams in the Newcomers, two teams of four and a third team of three. It came as a bit of a shock when they found out that they were to compete in the same arena as the Open riders would later be in and over the same jumps, albeit at a slightly smaller height! The fillers were bright and one in particular was covered in a variety of sealife which some of our ponies took a particular dislike to. However our younger riders gained some invaluable experience and I think fun was had by all. However the news wasn't all bad as they claimed 3rd and 4th prizes in the tack and turnout competition! WELL DONE.

The Novice riders found themselves jumping in a much larger arena again with a variety of fillers, a tricky stile and a wall at the last. A mini tornado added a touch of drama to the day by sweeping across the the showground and sending every jump in its path flying! Luckily none of our riders were in the ring at the time. The team finished the first round on 4 faults and went positively into the second round. All our riders jumped very well, and Beth Anderson came away having jumped a double clear.  We finished on 12 faults and came a very respectable 6th, and Beth qualified as an individual for the Novice Championships. The Novices also took equal 5th in the tack and turnout.

Ashley Daniel was the only East Cheshire member to compete in the Intermediate. Unfortunately Toby also took a disliking to the dreaded fish! However he redeemed himself in the 2nd round by jumping clear and finished in 6th place.

Finally it was the turn of Pip Wise and Emily Barnes to try their luck in the Open class. With only nine riders in total making up two teams, Flint and Denbigh and Tanatside, and our two individuals it didn't take long for the Open to get into full swing. The first round only saw three clear rounds jumped, one of these being a very stylish round jumped by Emily Barnes and Manor D, Pip had an unfortunate 4 faults over a very gappy parallel, otherwise Breeze II jumped well. They went into the second round fighting for one of the three qualifiying places. This time Pip and Breeze jumped a lovely clear having a little more respect now that a water tray had been placed under the boogy fence. Once again Emily jumped a fantastic clear to equal the one other double clear that had been ridden by a Flint and Denbigh member. However Emily and Manor D had the quicker round and much to her surprise won the Open class, Emily therefore qualifies to compete at The Pony Club National Championships, which will be held at Draycott. Pip also did extremely well and finished the day in 4th place. WELL DONE to you both and GOOD LUCK EMILY for the Championships!!!

Winter League is a series of competitions set up whereby each branch within our area holds a show jumping competition at some point during the winter, the aim being for members to improve through regular practice at the discipline. Although it is primarily a team competition, if there are insufficient numbers to make up teams individuals can still compete. Unfortunately on some occasions the entries are limited to teams due to too many entries, so priority will be given to members showing commitment.

Throughout the winter branches gain points for being placed as a team at each competition, ending in a presentation for final placing where rosettes and prizes are awarded.

At each competition there are the following classes:

     Class 1     Juniors 10yrs and under           2’3’’
     Class 2     Novice 13yrs and under           2’6’’
     Class 3     Intermediate                          2’9’’
     Class 4     Open                                    3’3’’

A team consists of four members, with the best three scores in each round to count. Rosettes and prizes given from 1st – 6th for teams and individuals in each class.

I organise entries and teams for each competition, therefore if you would like to compete I require your entry and a cheque made payable to E.C.B.P.C, at least two weeks prior to the competition as I have to organise teams and send the branches entries to the host Pony Club. No entries will be made without payment in advance. On your entry please indicate whether you would want to jump as an individual if there were insufficient entries to make a team. The fee this year for most of the competitions is £10.00.

Area Show Jumping - Llanymynech - 4 August 2009

I would like to thank and congratulate all our members who represented the East Cheshire Branch at the Area Showjumping, held on Tuesday 4th August at Llanymynech. We had two teams in the Novice Championship Qualifier and one in the Intermediate Championship Qualifier.

The East Cheshire Aces, consisting of Sarah Etherington (Prince of Kilkenny), Kate Barnes (Tiger Lily), Lizzy Willis (Sam) and Beth Anderson (Mike) came a very respectable 6th out of 16 teams. After finishing on a clear in the first round the pressure was on, however the addition of new fillers caught a couple of our riders out and we ended up on a total of 7 faults.

The East Cheshire Hearts, consisting of Toby Johnson (Belle), Rosie Hutchings (Black Prince), Katy McKeown (Princess Tia Maria) and Matti Caldwell (Swift) were placed in the tack and turnout competition.

The Intermediate team of Emily Barnes (Manor D), Sam Foxall (Onnie), Leona Lock-Williams (Capitana) and Ashley Daniel (Tobias) did fantastically well finishing in 3rd place out of 8 teams. And after jumping a very stylish clear in an exciting third round jump off Emily came 2nd and qualified for the National Championships!!!!!!

Well done Emily!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The intermediate team also won their tack and turnout competition, which made all that cleaning and polishing worth it. Well done everyone!

Elly
