ACHIEVEMENT BADGES

We run many rallies covering a wide range of the Achievement Badges. There are both Equine and Non Equine badges - 18 Equine and 13 Non Equine.  Also there are 12 Mini Achievement Badges for those not old enough to do the Achievement Badges.  For more detailed information for each badge please go to the main website.  If there is a particular badge that you are trying to get please let us know and we can then try to organise a rally for you to achieve your goal.  We, as a Pony Club, would like to encourage as many of you as possible to gain the Gold Achievement Badge which is awarded when you have got 20 badges. 

Equine Welfare Merit Badge

If any members have passed all the following badges they will be eligible to receive the Blue Cross Equine Merit Badge:

Bandaging & Rugs
Care of the Horse's Foot
Feeding
First Aid (Equine)
Handling & Grooming
Lorinery
Mucking Out
Perfect Paddock
Saddlery
Shoeing
 

EFFICIENCY TESTS

The Pony Club Training structure encourages Members to take tests which enables them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding.  The tests are taken at recommended ages and are designed with certain objectives in mind.  Full details of each test can be found on the main website under "Tests and Achievements".

E Test

This is a new test which we introduced at Mini Camp this year.  The objective is:

  • To improve and enjoy learning about ponies.
  • To be happy both on and around ponies
  • To know the basic points of the pony.

Congratulations go to Max Treichl, Maddie Cooper, Tallulah Covell, Cherry Pallister, Izobel Loveday, Toby Dolan, Felix Pinney, Annie Frampton-Hobbs, Kitty Palmer and Hebe Wallington who all passed the test at Mini Camp 2008.

D Test

This is taken by members in their first year of Junior Camp.  The objective is:

  • To have a basic understanding of ponies.
  • To achieve confidence in handling and riding a pony.
  • To improve and enjoy learning about ponies.

Congratulations go to Tom Lewis, Josh Creswell, Amelia Bain, Chloe Diment, Rosanagh Bullough, Laura Hemsley, Georgie Loveday, Rosanna Miller, Emily Clunes, Caitlin Lynch, Lucy Ashcroft, Johnnie Hemsley, Jemima Dempsey, Lucy Buckwell, Tara Byme, Isabel Smallwood, Jemima Jackson, Emmeline Hughes, Stella Boden, Lucinda Miller and Jemima Owen all passed at Junior Camp this summer. 


D+ Test

This is taken by members aged 11yrs at Junior Camp.  The objective is:

  • To be working towards developing a balanced seat independent of the reins.
  • To understand elementary aids and be able to apply them.

Congratulations go to Zenobia Voguele-Downing, Kitty Appleby, Polly Pentreath, Alyce Lane, Eliza Bacon, Alexa Palmer, Lucinda Elwood, Hugo Hunt and Gus France-Hayhurst.

C Test

This is taken by members generally in their first year at Senior Camp.  The objective is:

  • To understand the importance of, and to be working towards a secure seat independent of the reins
  • To apply simple aids correctly
  • To have a knowledge of the care and working of a pony off grass
  • To be in control of the pony on the roads and in the countryside. To have a proper regard for country lore

Congratulations go to: Oli Firth, Poppy Booth, Melissa Townshend, Tom Bacon, Charlie Brown, Florence Pisani, Rebecca Head, Jenny Howie, Flora Lickiss, Fenella Pinney, Darren Andrews, Hannah Rees, Poppy Reid, Georgie Harris, Alice Jackson, Emily Simons, Ella Pallister, Leonora Ross-Skinner, Millie Wallington and Frankie Houghton who all passed at Senior Camp this year.

During the Christmas Holidays Oli Ford successfully passed his C Test. 

Road Rider Test

Congratulations go to Darren Andrews, Jo Bluck, Katie Hills, Alice Jackson, Immy Jones, Flora Lickiss, Tilly Newman and Florence Pisani who all passed this summer.

C+ Test

This is taken by children aged 13 to 14 years old.  This is the first time that we have outside examiners and this year will be taken during the October Half Term.  If you are interested in taking this test during the Christmas holidays please contact Tessa Mackenzie-Green on 01308 862537 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  The objectives of this test are:

  • To become an educated and practical horseman
  • To ride over fences at all paces
  • To gain practical experience and knowledge of the care of a stabled pony and of a pony at grass
  • To be capable of riding a well-mannered pony out hunting and in all Pony Club activities
  • To ride intelligently and with due regard for others on the roads and in the country, and with a knowledge of pace, distance and discipline when riding alone and in groups.

In October Half Term Chantelle Dorton, Tom Elliot, Grace Kirby, Jodie Loveday, Zoe Roberts and Charlotte Walters all passed their C+ Test.

During the Christmas holidays Darren Andrews, Anna Boden, Alexandra France-Hayhurst, Lucy Milne, Robert Oakley, Ella Pallister, Fenella Pinney and Luci Taylor successfully passed their C+ Test.

B Test

Members holding the full B Test are allowed direct entry to BHS Stage III.
There is a special B Test camp run by Area 14 and B Test ride at Senior Camp.  This test does require hard work and commitment and is best taken in the summer after GCSEs.  If you are interested in taking this test please contact Tessa Mackenzie-Green on 01308 862537 or email

Well done to Emily Palmer who passed her B Test this summer.  The following passed their B Test Care in October Half Term - Delia Batt, Melissa Bain and Laura Clark.

Lungeing, AH and A Test

Congratulations go to Robin Waterson and Alice Greenwood who have both passed their A Test this year.  This is an incredible achievement.  Our Pony Club now has three members who have passed the top test - the other member is Charlotte Baillie.
