EVENTING REPORT SUMMER 2008
Area eventing was run by the Cattistock at Aldon, which is a BE course near Yeovil. They ran two days of competition which was a huge undertaking, but despite torrential rain a couple of days beforehand, the sun shone and the ground was perfect. All of the courses were big and technical, and the classes were definitely won by those who went well cross country.
The National Novices went first and found their course very testing. Charlie Lanz had an unfortunate fall, having had a very good round, Madeleine Barr’s pony was tired from camp, Charlotte Hawker and Katie Ebbs ponies are still young and found it a bit much and Lucy Grimshaw had a lovely round but went the wrong way in the water.
The Open course had a big boat with a very steep drop and hill and a large viaduct wall into water, not to mention the skinnies on the hill side. The silver team came 2nd with Laura Sexton winning her section, Imogen Mercer coming 5th, Yoyo Edwards and Hannah Chase. The gold team came 3rd with David Doel, Charlotte Adderley, Frankie Price and Ellie Still who was 2nd. Victoria Adderley was an individual but was jumped off down the steep hill drop. Only Ellie, Laura and Imogen managed very well-ridden clears.Ellie went on to come 3rd at the Championships with a special commendation for her cross country riding and a mention in Horse and Hound. Laura went well at the Championships but found an unexpected log in her way on the cross country which caused her a momentary loss of concentration at the corners and a subsequent run-out.
The Intermediate team was Alice Manister, Sophie Arundel and Emily Waldron who came a well deserved 4th.
The Junior competition was being held for the first time and was definitely the largest class and the most hotly contested. Our Green Team came a brilliant 4th with Brooke Henley, Sasha Cook, Kirsten McFaull (3rd) and Beau Carrel (2nd). The Blue Team were snapping at their heels in 6th with Libby Seed, Jonty Bevins, Katie Smyth (7th) and Bonnie Bartlett (4th). In 7th came the Red Team with Elena Palmer, Sarah Pinfield (best dressage), Sophie Andrews (7th) and Antonia Riley (4th).
Thank you to all instructors who have taught at rallies and camps for all your hard work.
Well Done to you all, a very exciting result.
