Avon Vale Dressage Report 2008
On one of the few fine days in July, a total of seven teams headed for Bristol and the Area Dressage.
JUNIORS
The Juniors certainly showed us the way – as the Team of Sarah Pinfield (1st), Antonia Riley (2nd), Elena Palmer (4th) and Sophie Andrews won the Junior class in the largest class of the day. The other two teams of Libby Seed, Jonty Bevins, Amy Greenman, Brooke Henley, Emily Mckeown, Sophie Lavender, Charlotte Self and Catherine Lambert all scored well – and will have learned a lot from the experience of team competition.NOVICE CHALLENGE
We fielded two teams at this level. Madeleine Barr produced a correct test to be 7th, competing in a team along with Rebecca Mowlem, Georgie Wyatt and Cesci Addis.
Antonia, Elena and Sarah rode again, alongside Katie Ebbs in this slightly more difficult test. A superb second place for this very young team meant qualification for the Championships in Cheshire during the August Bank Holiday weekend.
With Elena flying back from holiday especially for the competition, all had a great time at what will hopefully be the first of many Championships for them all. Sarah Pinfield claimed 2nd place individually and Antonia was rewarded with a top 10 placing in this prestigious National competition.
OPEN AREA
Two teams made it to the Open section. Nearly all our competitors were placed – with the team of Frankie Price (10th), Sophie Arundel (6th), Alex Hamilton White and Hannah Chase putting up a strong performance to be Team 5th.
However, David Doel (1st), Beth Stoneham (2nd), Lucy Ryan (5th) and Jessica Waldron lead the field at the end of the class and the win qualified them through to the National Championships – held at Draycott Manor in August.
At this National level – David held his own for 4th place in his section with Lucy coming 8th on her young horse. However, Beth suffered the misfortune of Max going lame just before her test – which meant a slightly cautious and uneven performance – a real disappointment for the pair who have been so consistent all year. Jessica kept her nerve under the pressure and produced a solid performance to help the team to 5th place. This was the Avon Vale’s best Team result in the Open Dressage – so many congratulations to all concerned.
