Parents Information
Endurance Riding Guidelines There are some rules that are not the same for both Pony Club and Endurance GB. Where there is a difference the Endurance GB rules will apply for Pony Club Classes at Endurance GB Rides and Pony Club Rules will apply at events run within the Pony Club Branch or Area.
These can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. It is worth reducing to A5 and printing on light card, as they will fit into the official logbooks of endurance organisations when The Pony Club Member moves on.
Entries on the Mastersheet are for each ride, Pass or Fail. The competitor fills in the first four columns at the beginning of the ride and leaves it with the ride secretary. It must be officially signed by the ride organiser or Steward at the end - but only passes count for actual qualification.
When The Pony Club Member moves on, he/she must send in the Pony Club Mastersheet to get the qualifying rides transferred.
It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet manufactured to the minimum standards as laid out in the current Pony Club Year Book. The fit of the hat and the adjustment of the harness are as crucial as the quality. Members are advised to try several makes to find the best fit, the hat should not move on the head when the head is tipped forward.
Hats must be replaced after a severe impact, subsequent protection will be significantly reduced. Hats deteriorate with age and should be replaced after three to five years depending upon the amount of use.
Hats, with a cover, must be worn when mounted (this includes at prize-giving) with a chinstrap fastened at all times. The Official Steward/Organiser may, at his discretion, eliminate a competitor riding in the area of the competition without a hat or with the chinstrap unfastened or a hat that does not comply with these standards.
Hats with long ventilation slits are not allowed for Members over nine years old.
Tags may only be fitted by one of the two appointed Branch officials after they have personally checked the hat. Tagging indicates that a hat meets the above standards, NO check of the fit and condition of the hat is implied. It is considered to be the responsibility of the Member's parent or guardian to ensure that their hat complies with the required standards and is tagged before they go to any Pony Club event. Also to ensure that the manufacturer's guidelines with regard to fit and replacement are followed.
Breeches or jodhpurs with long or short boots (Standard Riding or Jodhpur Boots with a smooth, fairly thin sole, and a well-defined square cut heel should be worn. No other footwear will be allowed.) Plain chaps optional, shirts, ties and jackets are not necessary but competitors should be neatly dressed, i.e. tidy pony club sweatshirt/poloshirt will be ideal. Waterproof jackets may be worn. Bib numbers must be worn at all times.
No Jewellery is allowed
Horses/ponies must be ridden in a saddle and bridle at all times during the ride. Please refer to current Pony Club Saddlery rules.
